few questions

i originally posted this in the breeding section but have had no response so i thought i would try here.

i have 4 trioceros jacksonii xantholophus, one female. She has not mated while in my care but we found her in the wild. Over the last 3 months, our largest most handsome male has made many attempts to woo her (almost daily), doing his "hey baby" dance only to have her come back with her "no way in h***" dance. If she were not pregnant wouldn't she have given him a chance by now? What colors, changes and behaviors should I expect from her if she is pregnant? Does any body have photos they could share?

I also have a question regarding supplements. I do not give my darlings supplements. Reason being, they have the same diet and habitat now that they had while they were living a few feet from my bedroom window. Should i be giving them supplements? If so what kind? They wouldn't need the same supplements as a cham kept in Az. correct? Do different environments create different supplement needs?

Thank you!!!!

These are a few photos of my female in question

i know nothing about jackson....but if she isnt gravid she is awfully tubby.
as for supplements i do believe you should still be providing some .... but i know they are different from veields and panthers .... so how much of which is out of the question for me to answer.... maybe someone more expierenced will see this and chime in :D

if they have been together for more than a week, its likely the deed has been done whether she appears co operative or not.. your female does appear to me to be likely gravid. females usually display gravid coloration but not always as seen in post #5 of this thread https://www.chameleonforums.com/expect-babies-soon-36311/index4.html as far as supps go, that would depend mostly on her lighting and diet , there is no mention of how much inside/outside lighting she gets, or what kind of lighting is used. her diet may appear to be the same, but i am guessing she probably had a more complete diet while she was free ranging in the wild, so just to be safe it probably would be a good idea to dust with sticky tongue farms miner-all about once or twice a month but once again it depends on her diet and light regimen. probably would be a good idea to sparingly use stf vit-all every 6-8 weeks. not to rain on the parade, its water over the dam now, but the first thing i would have done had i planned on keeping a wc, would be to have a fecal float done, since the majority of wc hawaiin xanths have some parasite issue, so still probably a good idea. jmo

You said..."I also have a question regarding supplements. I do not give my darlings supplements. They wouldn't need the same supplements as a cham kept in Az. correct? Do different environments create different supplement needs?"...if you are keeping them outside and they get exposure to the sunlight and have the exact same WC insects that you are catching and giving them...then I would expect that they don't need supplements. If however you are keeping them in the house part of the time and using artificial light/UVB and feeding them store bought insects, then they will need supplements.

Thank you so much for all of your replies!

i checked out those pics of he pregnant female coloring and my cham does display those colors mostly during the day. Will she likely stay those colors and not change back to the bright green as she gets closer to birthing?

As far as how we keep her, she has a large cage in the corner of our room, with open windows on both sides so she always has natural sun light and fresh air as well as the humidity. We do not keep her cage closed, she is free to roam around in her side of the room so she can be most comfortable, although, she usually chooses to hang out on her favorite perch, located in her cage.

The winter months where we live tend to be dark and rainy, so i was thinking, to be safe, starting her on supplements as she wont have very much sun time and i wont be able to spend a lot of time outdoors "harvesting" her favorite foods. I will most likely have to get her store bought food for the days it is storming to bad to get outside.

oh, also wanted to ask if she can eat geckos. We don't feed her geckos, but there are always geckos running through the house and one was hanging out on the chameleons window screen and she ate it!!!! Is that normal???? I have never seen her go for the wild anoles or geckos, it tripped me out! Plus, i felt terrible for the gecko.... still feel bad about it. If that is the food chain though and normal for chams to do i wont feel as bad. Nature is nature...
