Female not laying eggs

Just an update, i bought a 60 litre addis plastic dustbin over the weekend, removed the flap on the lid and replaced it with plastic mesh. i also went to the pet shop and got some advice from the pet store owner, i bought "dune sand" (two packs). the pet store owner also told me that when i stick my finger into the sand, it should stay that way and not fall back, so i prepared the sand to be in that order. the sand is approx 11cm, i know it's still too shallow, but i will buy more over the weekend.

I also drilled two small holes on each side of the bin for extra ventilation and for me to peek occasionally.
I then placed her basking lamp to shine through the mesh on top.

I placed a branch in the cage for her to sit on and also bought some plastic leaves (from the pet shop) for watering purposes.

She hasn't started digging yet, but i think she just needs to get used to it first. I'll take some pictures of the whole new contraption and post them tomorrow.

Also, you said i need to take out all uneaten insects, i feed her mostly crickets, if i leave them in her cage during the day, will they not dig into the soil and hide?

I trew six crickets into her cage this morning, and i am woried of this.

Thanks

Hi all,

Just an update, my cham laid her eggs finally during last night.

Thank you very much for all the assistance!!

Glad to hear that she laid the eggs!
How are you incubating them?
Is she back to eating, etc., acting normally?

I'm not sure really, i started a new thread in the breeding section asking about incubation tips - as this thread is now beyond the scope of the topic.

She only laid them throughout the night. she is till on the floor covering the hole.
I will be patient and just wait until she sits on her branch again before i start interfering.

Very exciting moment this morning when i saw that! :D

Thanks Lily!

Yes it was extremely hard not to peek every five minutes. I just decided i'd leave the house for the day and that helped.

Has Lily laid eggs before?
I know it is an extremely stressful process for them, so i was just wondering when to start worrying.

At this stage she eats minimal (she only ate two crickets today)

Thanks:D
(Good luck with the eggs!)

This is Lily's second clutch. Her first was huge - she laid 103! Check out my thread https://www.chameleonforums.com/how-many-time-23042/ It follows her laying process for this second clutch. She is now covering up her eggs and looking rather deflated! :D

I think that the time to worry (for me) is if she didn't eat and drink after laying or didn't seem to recover properly. Hopefully they'll both be ok! Fingers crossd and wait and see!

Wow, 103!

Did all of them hatch or were they infertile also?

She ate 4 crickets today, so that's two less than she normally eats everyday, i saw her drinking this morning, she still sleeps a lot but at least her appetite has increased!

Please post photos when she is done laying her eggs!

Good luck!:D

Just by the way Fidget your chameleon IS a flap neck so you dont need to incubate them keep them in a dark cubourd in room temperature.

Thanks, i plan on putting the container in the cubboard tonight.

This is great. i'm just curious as to why i don't need to incubate them?
Is it only because of the species, or are the eggs used to cold temps?

Thanks

Because you live in SA, the temperatures will all be natural, and the chameleons will hatch out at the healthiest they can be.
This is the natural time of the year when females lay eggs, (they stop at the end of April).
So your eggs will experience the right temperatures.

You should expect them to hatch from 6 to 10 months.
