Female Mouth Gaping?

Your Chameleon -Female Panther, Ambilobe. She is 21 months old and has been in my care for 18 months.

Handling -2-5 times a month. Usually for me to check her up.

Feeding - I feed her every third day. However, for the past 2 weeks I have cut back on feeding to once a week, and a small amount of insects as well. She has been gaining a lot of weight, and I suspect she is about to lay an infertile clutch. I gutload all of my feeders with a dry gutload recipe from SPF, I also use apples, oranges, and cucumbers. Her feeders consist of dubias, turkistan roaches, crickets, superworms, and the occasional silk or horn worm.
Supplements - I dust them every other feeding with phos/d3 free calcium, and then I use a multivit with calcium w/d3 twice a month.
Watering - 7x a day, 45 second intervals, Mist King <3 She drinks often, I see her drink every time water is presented. I offer more with a hand mister as I see necessary.
Fecal Description -Very healthy poo. White Urate, the smallest hint of yellow, and the rest was solid brown. She hasn't been to a vet yet, but I'm going to if this problem persists.
History - She was bread once when she was 12-13 months old. She then laid a clutch 30 days later consisting of 23 eggs, and another clutch 45 days later consisting of 35 eggs:eek:She recovered very well though and was back to normal in no time. She has not been bread since, and she laid her last clutch in October. She has been gaining weight for the last 40 days or so, and I have been feeding her less, and now I'm feeding her next to nothing. She is big, and appears gravid. I have a laying bin for her (same one she used before, I replaced the substrate )

Cage Info: 2x2x4 screen mesh, made myself

Lighting -Reptisun 5.0 uvb and a 75 watt basking bulb (temperature at 83 highest)8am to 8pm
Temperature -The basking temp is at 83 degrees, and the lowest is 70 during the day, 66 at night. I measure this with a temp gun \
Humidity - Humidity is at 40-60, spiking after mistings. I mist her 7 times a day for 45 second intervals using a mist king.
Plants -I have all live plants, a dracenea and a pothos.
Placement - Cage is located on the ground, but is isolated in the corner. I have a sheet covering that whole area cutting it off to traffic. Only sees me during feedings and cleanings.
Location - Hermiston, Oregon

Current Problem - For the past two days she has been using her tongue to press forward on her throat, and has been gaping her mouth while doing so. She has been doing this consistently :/ I checked her nostrils and they are free of any blockage, I suspect a respiratory problem. I wanted to get some opinions before I jump to any conclusions though. Is it vet time? Also, what are some tips that I can do in the mean time? Has this happened to anyone else before?

Almost ironically this started happening the day two of her offspring emerged out of their shell :) Thank you for your help. I love this girl very much and am willing to go through just about any measure to make sure that she is completely healthy.

I wish I had some ideas but the only thing that comes to mind is some of mine will do a similar thing when they are getting ready to shed.
I wish I could be more help. A vet visit is always a good idea when in doubt

I agree, as I mentioned if this persists she will be taken to the vet. Thank you for your input :D

I don't think it's really a good idea to cut back her food when she is already gravid. You want to cut back the food a few days after she lays.

Can you get a pic of her doing it?

She hasn't laid eggs since October?? Could she be eggbound?

I hope not, I assumed she was done after the 2nd clutch because her gravid colors went away, and after she recovered from the clutch she went back to normal for three and a half months or so. For the last 45 days she has been gaining weight.

Pshh... I have reduced her diet recently because she is quite simply too large. if she is egg bound, the clutch is infertile. I'm feeding her enough to keep her strength up, but not enough to allow her body to produce an excess of eggs.

She hasn't done the mouth gaping thing for 2 days now, she seems to be active, but she hasn't started patrolling the bottom of her cage yet. That is usually the indicator I have used in the past to know when one of my females is ready to lay.

If she already has eggs, it doesn't matter. Reducing food will just give her less nutrients to produce the eggs. The point of reducing food (in regards to how many eggs she will lay) is to try and stop her from allowing too many follicles to become eggs. Once she begins producing the clutch, she needs the nutrients.

Went to the Vet today with Skittles, as it turns out she has an Upper Respiratory Infection. The Dr. gave me some Reptile-Bene Bacteria Probiotic for her, and told me to up the humidity and temperature in her cage, as well as add some kind of air flow (like a fan). Also she is not pregnant, and instead has amassed a bit of fluid build up from the URI. The probiotic is said to fix that entirely, and the URI within 10 days.I'm supposed to administer it at waterings and feedings, so I sprinkled it on some of her leafs and then misted her. I will be doing that every day for 30 days, and then cut it back to every third day for another 30 days. He also recommended that I introduce some of the probiotic to my other chams. What do you guys think of this?

I'm not a vet, but I don't understand how a probiotic is going to stop an infection in the respiratory system? Probiotics are to help the good gut bacteria in the intestines.

Pshh, would you recommend repti-aid for this situation? I called the vet and he said he prescribed the pro-biotic for her digestive issues. The URI was left untreated come to find out. So I'm calling every vet and animal pharmacy within a 100 mile radius looking for Repti-Aid. (from what I know of the product it is an Antibiotic formula that is effective against URIs) I really appreciate any input :)
