i usually hand feed Zeus but for the past week he has been hissing at me and lunging at me. Could this be his way of telling me he’s done eating? He only ate 4 crickets today and started hissing at me

Hi, please fill out the below form. I can guarantee that one of the seasoned members can tell you the details about hunger strikes. Do you only hand-feed, or do you dish feed/free range feed?

  • Handling - How often do you handle your chameleon?
  • Feeding - What are you feeding your cham? What amount? What is the schedule? How are you gut-loading your feeders?
  • Supplements - What brand and type of calcium and vitamin products are you dusting your feeders with and what is the schedule?
  • Watering - What kind of watering technique do you use? How often and how long to you mist? Do you see your chameleon drinking?
  • Fecal Description - Briefly note colors and consistency from recent droppings. Has this chameleon ever been tested for parasites?
  • History - Any previous information about your cham that might be useful to others when trying to help you.

Cage Info:
  • Cage Type - Describe your cage (Glass, Screen, Combo?) What are the dimensions?
  • Lighting - What brand, model, and types of lighting are you using? What is your daily lighting schedule?
  • Temperature - What temp range have you created (cage floor to basking spot)? Lowest overnight temp? How do you measure these temps?
  • Humidity - What are your humidity levels? How are you creating and maintaining these levels? What do you use to measure humidity?
  • Plants - Are you using live plants? If so, what kind?
  • Placement - Where is your cage located? Is it near any fans, air vents, or high traffic areas? At what height is the top of the cage relative to your room floor?
  • Location - Where are you geographically located?

Current Problem - The current problem you are concerned about.

@CamrynTheCham22 This has been an ongoing problem for many months now and bmjo has answered those questions before. Please take a look at his previous posts if you would like more info.

@Bmjo How is the rest of his health these days? Are his eyes still open during the day? I really think you need to give him space

His eyes are always open he’s been eating 10-15 crickets a day. He finally ate a horned worm. He ate the worm 2 days ago could he still be full from that?i haven’t held him in over 2 weeks

No, he shouldn't be full from 2 days ago. Are you cup feeding at all? I believe we talked about that previously

He hasn’t grown very much though

He is lazy he will only eat unless i put the cricket right next to him he won’t chase them
This is possibly a health concern. If your chameleon is not active, then they probably have something going on. Has Zeus been to the vet recently?

He moves around throughout the day. He went to the vet a couple months ago. He moves around he just doesn’t chase after food unless i put it close to him and it tries getting away
