feeding help

I got a field chameleon About 11 days ago from PETCO they told me to give him 12 meal worms twice a day and today I switched out the small bowl for a new one days they keep escaping and he ate 9 of them but all of a sudden he opened his mouth and in haled air so I knew that was not a to good sign. Is their a alternative to the food because I think PETCO screwed me over
