feeding baby water snail ???

SHHHHHH - if my daughter knew I was posting this- there was a post just not long ago about feeding snails - and it was advised NOT to feed water snails due to parasites - but our water snail is having babies- they are the perfect size for Olive ( AKA the crabbiest Jackson on earth ) would these be ok to offer or not due to the fact they are new-born or can they already have parasites ? if there is ANY chance of them have worms or what ever or not being safe for her I dont want to offer her any - ummm......anyone need any snails- ( I almost hope the answer is NOT to feed them- they are so stinking cute !! but as we all know- its all about the chams needs first-

I'm not sure if you can or can not feed them.. but I personally wouldn't want to risk it. If there's potentially anything in that snail that could transmit to your cham, it's just not worth the risk really! If the snails have even one parasite, then it could spell vet visits for your cham.. and no one wants that.

Just my two cents! Hopefully someone else can provide better insight on the matter!

yes, thats the thing- I do not know how long it takes for them to develop the parasite -- the babies are only less than 12 hrs old - they just keep coming out - lol it is very neat tho- they are born in a tiny little birth sack- I never knew snail birth
could be so interesting - they are in a fish tank- so not like a pond or anything - but the mother IS from a pond in a woods- I just wondered - so far I can only get her to eat crix, I really want to get some other feeder items in her- but not if they are going to make her sick I have millions of land snails, but they are all in bed until spring-

Since the have been raised in your home? i would think it was ok. But they are from a fish tank at your home? If they are from a wild water mom, then I just would not do it. This is a guess, I have no knowledge here.

The only thing I would be concerned about is even though the tank may be healthy there may be parasites still present and tank inhabitants are just immune or healthy enough not to be affected and not a strain that your Cham would be accustomed to. Also consider any supplements you are using in the tank.
Too much of a risk I think, then again I stress about everything. It may be just fine but I tend to err on the side of caution. I imagine though it would be much like feeding feeders found outside.

Just thinking back to my saltwater days/years when I had a huge crash and then I battled marine velvet. I transferred that mess on my net to another healthy tank . Oh the cycle of parasites!

yes, she is a wc snail- so I agree Laurie- I wll just wait for spring when the right ones are up and about ~
