Feeder Questions

For awhile now ive been feeding spike crickets 10-12 every other day. The days in between i give a superworm or two. I want to spice up his diet now so i was thinking about getting some dubias for his primary feeder and some silkworms and hornworms for his treat in between days. My question is How many dubias do i feed a day? And when feeding silkworms and hornworms how many? what do you guys do?

That really depends on the size of the dubias you feed. I like dubias as a staple because they eat carrots, apples, and leafy greens like crickets do. The b. dubias also are far easier to breed. Therefore, I can buy 200 and breed them very easily to get thousands in several months time. Crickets are not as easy for me to breed. Typically, I feed my adults about 5 or 6 medium dubias one day and on the next day I may feed 5 or 6 medium sized crickets. This helps keep diversity in their diet. As far as my juvies go I may feed them 8 - 10 small to medium dubias one day and then 10-12 small to medium crickets the next day. Also, I do not feed my adults every day, I usually feed the adults only 4 or 5 days a week. My juvies I feed maybe 6 days a week. Every once in a while I will order hornworms or silkworms to change things up. However, I find these to grow so fast I tend to wast money, so I do not get them often.

How old is spike? 10-12 crickets every other day plus a few superworms seems a fair bit to me.

A dubia that isnt too big might count like 2 crickets, a larger dubia may be similar to four crickets. Similarily a medium to large sized silkie is like 2-3 crickets. Using Dubia, Crickets, Silkies, Hornworms and Supers sounds like a nice mix. Other options include butterworms, moths, flies, stick insects, termites....

You asked what others do - check my blog, in the food diary category to see what mine get

I say about 8-10 crickets or equivalent of every other day. He's old enough to start being fed every other day. Or you can feed smaller amounts everyday instead, its your call.
