Fan placement

I have a 24x18x 30 screen cage with a 3 mo old panther I have a 75 watt basking area the cage sits in my garage and the bottom of the cage never goes above 65 . I have read that air movement is good for them so would putting a fan on top blowing down is a good idea .

I recommend good ventilation not necessarily air movement. Also, the fan could make things too cold for him if the bottom of his cage is already at 65.

With the cold air you have around the cage I wouldn't use a fan. Is there someway you could add sides to the cage to improve the temps lower in the cage?

Too cold for a fan. I run one in the summer, but not in the winter. Even then, never blowing directly on the enclosures. Your panther chameleon would be in bad shape if you tried that.

That sounds way too cold. The ambient day temp should be 80 and the basking should be at like 86. 65 degrees is way too cold for during the day. 65 is how cold it should at night, but if it is already that cold during the day then I am scared to ask how cold you let it get at night. I would highly recommend moving the enclosure inside where it is warmer. I guarantee you will see him growing faster, healthier, and more alert.

I have a heater for the night time . The last few nights it was in the low 20 wind chill around 10 but it stay around 60

No. The basking area works best when there is no air movement because it creates a small pocket of warm air in the top of the enclosure right under the dome light that just sits there and stays warm.

Explained in another way.....Like if you stand in the sun next to the wall of a brick building in the winter on a windless day it feels nice and warm. Try the same on a day with a slight breeze and that warm pocket of air is gone.

K thanks I understand I think I will build some kind of gismo that I can place some kind of tarp over to keep the heat in like a mini green house one last thought how anout under the tank heat matt

Ok I started to build a mini green house not great looking but it is my garage so no big deal made a frame and going to but a clear plastic tarp over it that should help keep the heat in from the light . I plan to have a small fan going to have some air movement inside

Are you keeping a panther cham in an unheated garage? I would not even try this with my montanes. Too cold.

No it has heat but only on one wall so it stays cool . Today was in the 30s and the garage stay around 68 but at night it can get around 58 on really cold nights
