False Chameleons and Backyard Oddities

Actually, it would not. They are Anolis carolinensis, an example of a "false chameleon" would be Chamaeleolis porcus

interesting. they have a whole diffrenty genus. do false chams look like our caraline anoles?

I love my pet fakers!

I have had a few fakes around for awhile. Fun addition to my home, live in my sons room. Good starter lizard for people to work with. I find my 8 year old watching them quietly from his bed all the time. Wish I could find more things to keep him that quiet.

When I was a kid we called them American Chameleons. I like that better (Goes with our tradition of American Buffalo, American Indians, and our city names like Paris Illinois which is not known as false Paris).

False chameleons are chamaeleolis species and false chameleons are very tame and not flighty and go for around $500 for a baby.

Cool lizards and nice pics though. Fun to watch.

I stand corrected. I have never heard of this animal. I have always heard anoles reffered to as false chameleons. That is a very odd looking reptile. Very interesting

its ok. Bio terms and classifications are always changeing and being rearrganged. the lizzard was originally classified as an anole; however, was found to be diffrent and reclassified so its possible at one point both were called similar things (flase chameleon).

Chamaeleolis barbatus
are closely related from cuba from my understanding. Anolis carolinensis "anoles" referred to as American Chameleons. Not false.
