Okay,

Does all of this sound good?

Water to Vermiculite (1part to 1part(by weight))- I am not planning on add water with this. Will it be fine not to add water for the whole incubation of F. Pardalis?

Tempreature: 22-23C by night, 24-25C by day.

Thank,

Adam Laskis

Hi Adam,

All of the above sounds good. On the temps, probably you would like to have an average of 20c during the day, for a couple of months (for diapausing) then raise it to 24c during the day.

What I do is I put approximately 1 inch of vermiculite into a plastic container with a lid that seals when closed (tupperware).

Ad water until the vermiculite starts floating, then turn the container upside down and hold the vermiculite with your hand (or the lid) until all water is drained and you don't have dripping water left. Don't squeeze the vermiculite.

I open my containers ONLY once a week through the incubation period for air exchange. However, once in a while grab one pebble of vermiculite and squeeze it. If water comes out, then it still good. If not add water. I have never had to add more water though.

Hope this helps.

Is it nessary to make a diapause for the eggs?

Thank,

Adam Laskis

Well it' s believe that if not the embryos will take longer, way longer. Diapause triggers them to start developing after it. I've read clutches not diapaused can take a year or more to hatch (haven't seen this on mine). The ones diapaused take an average of 7-8 months.

So a round about tempreature of 20C for 2 months will be fine?

Reason Im asking where are you located is, in Canada (at least in Toronto) low tempereatures to diapause are usually no problem all year around. For example, in the summer time, I use my basement, close to the AC, where temps are around 20c. After I incubate on my second floor, where temps are 25c.

In the winter, finding a cool room where to diapause shoudn't be an issue either. All year around I have no need to use an incubator. Room temperature does the trick. All I have to do is monitor different rooms in my house.

I am in Calgary, in canada.

Ok. Maybe I will wont use incubator. Just house.

But will a 1 part vicmiculite to a 1 part water(by weight) work for the incubaton substrates?

Thank,

Adam
