Eyes Closed

His eye looks swollen. Do they both look the same?
I think you said he drinks...how if his eyes are shut?
Do you drip it on his nose?

Okay...yea, that's a closed eye. I was concerned that you might be seeing an eye looking some other place and thinking it was closed.

That closed eye looks big to me...I have to wonder if something might not be going on there. Maybe you should try upping the mistings and even giving him a shower? He might just need to wash something out.

You might need to take him to a vet.

I took him out of the cage and let him crawl around and he opened
His eyes. I am moving him cages to see if he improves.

He may have suffered some trauma to his eyes during shipping. I hope he is improving now. Jacksonii's will bask but I have noticed mine like cooler temperatures then my Xantholophus and loves cool night time temps.

I'm out of town currently, my mom said he opened his eyes and is more active since I got him outta his cage. I had him out this morning and he was just opening a little slit, they weren't completely closed.

Sickly little guy..

Chameleon Info:

* Your Chameleon - Jacksonii Jacksonii, had him for a week, and he is 5 months old
* Handling - When I give him his eye drops
* Feeding - I can get him to eat about 2 crickets a day but I have to force them into his mouth. I see him drink some but not a lot.
* Supplements - I have calcium, calcium w/d3, and a multivitamin
* Watering - Mist king, 10 minutes, 3, 3, 3, 10.
* Fecal Description - Hasn't pooped yet
* History - Got him on Thursday. He was doing fine before he was shipped. Just wondering if he is still getting used to his new setup or not.

Cage Info:

* Cage Type - 6'x2'x4'. It's split in the middle.
* Lighting - Have a 5.0 repti glo uvb florescent(tube light), a florescent shop light(two tube lights), and a 60 wat house bulb. Lights on at 8, off at 8:40
* Temperature - Basking (80ish), ambient is about 73-76, night is 65-70
* Humidity - 40-60, depends how close it is to a misting session
* Plants - All live, small ivy plant, two pothos, and a yucca
* Placement - Located in my bedroom, little to no traffic during the day. I check on them every now and then but I just look. The cage sits 1.5 feet off the ground
* Location - Kentucky!

Took him to the vet on Monday and he has an infection so he gave me some eye drops(Tobramycin Opth. Drops). They have started to get his eyes open when I put them in but he won't hold them open on his own. He just looks awful. I gave him a nice warm shower about 20 minutes ago and he moved around and drank a little but I'm still worried. He is always under his basking light and never moves that much. Should I just give him time to recover or could there be another problem?
I'll attack a picture of him and his enclosure.

I would not force feed anything to him.

What schedule do you use these?

It could be that he needs more time to settle in, or because of the infection, or the medication.
I would give him more to climb on.
The more vines/sticks that are in there, the more options he will have in the temperature gradient. Temps play a large role in appetite, so adding a bunch of sticks wouldnt hurt:)

Please stop making a new thread about the same chameleon with the same problems...makes it very hard for us to follow since we have to look to see if there are other threads and read them all if we want to do a good job of answering.

You said he keeps his mouth open a lot....this can happen if he's too hot or if he has some organ damage or likely for other reasons too.
The fact that he keeps his eyes closed and walks around is still not a good thing IMHO. IMHO in the state that he is in he won't have long to live unless something is done to solve it soon.

Did the vet do a fecal??

Sorry didn't mean to make it hard for you. I am just worried. The vet didn't seem to concerned with anything else othe than his eye problems. I'll remove the ivy plant but what other small leaves plants are there for him? I've been trying to find some but I can't. He has plenty of different temperatures he can get too.

The force feeding isn't "force feeding" with his eyes the way they are he can't see anything, when he opens his mouth I put a cricket in it and he chews it up an shallows it.

You might try tying some of the pothos vines UP to create more leaves near the top. He just needs one or two ways to get from the top to the bottom and back.

Is the light that way just for the picture? Or is it really in his enclosure like that?

It's normally in his enclosure like that. He doesn't go anywhere near it. He doesn't move within a square foot of where he normally stays. I'll be getting some more little plants for him ASAP. And getting rid of the ivy. Maybe some umbrella plants.

Put two umbrella plants in there and removed the ivy. Also the vet said there was a little red spot of inflammation on his tongue but said he has seen it before and not to worry about it unless it got worse and spread, does this mean anything?
