Mega-Ray MV lamps are a great product for higher level UVB-loving reptiles (Iguanas etc.). You probably can't find a better product for them. Our chameleons may not benefit from that higher level of UVB. There are some studies that show levels above ~100uW/cm2 (Dr. Ferguson's panther studies) all day for years will promote severe health issues (tumors etc.). If your Mega-Ray,or any other UVB source for that matter, is positioned to deliver that level of UVB then you may eventually have troubles too. Position your Mega-Ray such that it delivers something around 20-50uW/cm2 to your chameleon's skin and I'd say that you were fine. The distance will depend on which model Mega-Ray lamp that you are using: http://www.uvguide.co.uk/mercvapournarrowfloods.htm#reptileuvmegarays.Oh, and position it on top aimed downwards .
thanks for that dave thats learnt me alot, erm.... i need to rethink my setup, ive got the 160w and it needs to be like 21 inches away at leastfor it to be 50uw/cm2 i will have to put it up higher asap.maybe i shud invest in the reptisun tubes.
