Eye Gunk/booger

Hey Gang,

Today I noticed my 1 year old Cham was hanging out most the day on the side of his enclosure he doesn't seem to chill in alot (opposite side of basking area). When I went to check on him I noticed he had an eye crusty (no other way to rly explain it) really bad. Basically like a huge eye booger covering most of his eye opening. I took him and gave him a nice warm shower to see if we can wash it. It did appear to loosen but not go away. I have a certain way I hold him so he sits at the highest point of my hand and doesn't really move much from there. This gave me a good opportunity to gently take a q-tip and clean it for him. He seemed relived after as he became playful and such like he always is. I've checked and he can see fine from it and everything looks good.

Has anyone seen/heard of this before? I'd love to know if it was a sign of illness or what? I will attach a photo of what it looked like, I do apologize about the quality though as I was trying to hurry.

Any help/advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

This could be a sign of a sinus or eye infection, but possibly it was discharge around a piece of shed skin (Did he shed recently?). If you have to clean it again, chances are there is something going in inside the eye or under the eyelid. Vet time.

His lights are off now, I'll check it and get a better pic in the morning. I wonder if I can get the drops/ointment without having to take him with me. My reasoning is I live in eastern Canada and its some cold here this week.

Im not sure how the policy work in Canada, but here the vet will have to take a look before giving out the prescription eye medication.
U can call ahead and warm ur car up first, put the cham in the Styrofoam box with a heat pack if u can get one then off to ur vet safely.

Most likely not. I can give you the name of what I was given later when I get home but most vets will want to see him.

I used a combination of Ofoxacin drops and neomycin Polly B sulfate ointment. I used the drops Followed by the ointment 4 times a day for 4 weeks then twice a day for 4 weeks. That was after we tried just the drops for 4 weeks, I didn't see improvement until we added the ointment. It was a very long battle. Mine did not make it, the infection went septic. You really need to get to a vet the sooner the better. Get it taken care of now. . Do some research on eye infection. You need to up his mistings. He needs a good long mist of 5 minutes at least once a day to help flush his eyes out.

Hey,

Sorry for the late reply but I wanted to give an update on my big boy Cash. His eye has been great since the day I cleaned it and have had no issues since. I was advised it could have been a few things but no issues since is a very good thing. It could have been an actual bite near the eye from a cricket as I did have more then normal free roaming during the holidays as I was super busy and stuff. I'm still monitoring it but looks like it was an isolated issue.

Thank you for all the advice and posts in helping with this issue.

Eddie & Cash
