Does anyone know if a 10 watt compact fluorescent aquarium bulb from walmart could cause the same eye trouble as a compact uvb type. I've ran into issues with the uvb compacts and will never use them again. I use a tube style 5.0 in my hood but feel the need for a little extra light for the plant life.

I don't really need any extra heat sources added to my setup. Ive already adjusted my heat lamps to give a temperate variation across the enclosure, and an extra source would greatly affect the cool area in which it is within. There is no other location to place it since the socket is built into the hood. The compact bulb would produce a large amount of light but without the extra heat of a common household bulb with a similar output. the light is going to have to reach at least 4 to 6 feet away due to the height and width of my enclosure. I've read elsewhere that the cf style aquarium bulbs are safe but I'm wanting at least a couple sources of assurance before using one.

Another idea to consider:
Take a simple, single tube fluorescent fixture and mount it vertically on one of the screen panel near a corner. Use a "spent" ReptiSun or a general linear bulb or a "grow light". This will avoid possible eye problems, won't add heat, and you can place the fixture someplace out of the way on the outside of the cage.
