Exoterra foam inserts

Has anyone ever tried one of these for a chameleon? You can hook a pump up to them and kind of use them as a waterfall. You could do away with the pools so water wouldn't collect. Would they be just as dangerous as a regular waterfall. You can also plant plants on them. I know they would look great in a cage but unsure about the water. Doesn't seem like they would be as dangerous, if at all, as a waterfall. They come in several different sizes. Just curious. Anyone have any opinions?

i would say yes to dangerous. it will stay damp and that would help mold and bacteria grow. they might have some sort of thing in them that aids in keeping that from happening. i would think it is unlikley

I've seen these at reptile shows and I have always been skeptical about their use. I see them as giant sponges. And I know that sponges can build up bacteria inside them.

One of their selling points is that they collect bacteria. Or how they state it they act as a biological filter. Bacteria will collect on the porous surface and process amonia nitrite and nitrate. Might be ok for amphibians, but to answer your question. Yes they will collect bacteria.

their container and hide and die behind it...its a waste of money
