Exo terra sunray

Hey guys I just bought an exo terra sunray 50w fixture online without a bulb for a pretty good deal and tried to find a bulb with no luck. I contacted exo terra and the bulb and fixture have been discontinued. Is there another bulb on the market that I can use in its place made for reptiles?

What type of chameleon do you have? We typically only recommend T5HO fixtures with a specific bulb strength dependent on the type of fixture and species of cham. The MH bulbs we do not recommend for use because they can produce much higher heat and UVI levels. So you need a solarmeter to double check your levels. This are typically only then used on very large enclosures or large free range areas.

I have a veiled in a 4x2x2 screen enclosure and planned on running this 14-16 inches above his closest basking spot

So personally I would not use a MH with out having a solarmeter and knowing that you are giving a 3-4 uvi at basking level but that is me.

Wouldnt this go for all bulbs? Jw why its such a concern to go off of the specs given from the manufacturer on an hid but its never suggested to measure the uv on a florescent?

I do not trust the specs that they give. I have a solarmeter and I run a T5 quad fixture with single reflector for all four bulbs. I have tested a zoomed 10.0, Arcadia 6%, and an Arcadia 12%.

With the zoomed 10.0 At 10-12 inches I was in no way getting a 3UVI level like they say in the post @Ruthless put up for you. In fact by 12 inch down from the bulb I was getting a .7 UVI. They do not give you specifics like if these are levels through screen or not. The other thing I do not like about the bulb you want to use. Is it focuses the UVB in one area.

Chameleon keepers very rarely use these bulbs and only when they have a solarmeter. T5HO fixtures with the linear bulb is what is recommended to have a healthy chameleon.

When I was setting up my Rhino and Cuban iguana winter cages I had the same concern about what they based the UV levels on. But the rep told me that they base the reading through a screen as most people would be mounting the light on top of a screen.

Well that is concerning because I did not get those levels that they show when I tested mine through a screen. They were much much lower.

This is the spec sheet I was referring to and was hopping that you guys could point me in the direction of a replacement bulb from a different manufacturer.

That will be hard. Most if not all of us use T5HO fixtures for our cham cages. They are the best and provide optimal coverage.
