Excited and wanted to share

I got to see my Cham eat for the first time today. He is really "shy" and really doesn't allow humans into his daily routine, but today for the first time in the more than three weeks that I have had him he walked right up to his dish and ate everything right in front of me. I even took a video. I'm hopeful that one day he will be accepting of physical touch. But I'm not holding my breath right yet.

They sure can be shy! It's a slow process but you can likely win him over. Patience is a must, start hand feeding and working on associating your hand with his favorite treat. After a month or so of daily hand feeding and 2-3x a week since my most stubborn guy came around a little bit, even now still won't walk onto hand solo but will let me coax him onto a finger to go outside without flaring up and hissing.

I was surprised by my veiled recently. All on her own she decided she was going to crawl up arm as if saying: "take me somewhere, I want out". This after months of having her and never picking her up. I did start hand feeding her a few weeks before that though. That took some time to get done. So you never know.

What I do now is use a stick because she seems more comfortable crawling on that first and from there she goes onto my hand/arm. Her reward, outside time on the Hibiscus.

Yeah my veiled is quite bold. He eagerly runs to his dish every morning when I come into the room. I like to mix it up a bit and put some roaches on the screen on the opposite side just to make him work for it. Don't want him to get too lazy lol!!! Funny thing is he will gladly hand feed anything I offer him. But if my wife tries, he just stares at her and will not take it! Funny little creatures!

I just thus week noticed that he will hide if one of my younger kids assists in his care. My oldest will do his care solo, and he seems to be tolerant of that, but he's timid of the younger boys

My veiled will come to the front of his cage when I open the door and try climbing my arm frequently. He also seems to put on a show hunting his food when I put it in and watch him. At misting time, he perches on a front branch while I give him a few squirts. I have hand fed him 1 or 2 insects a day since getting him over 2 months ago. Now on the flip side, he won't eat when he sees my wife watching him or standing nearby. When she mists the cage, he climbs down and hides between leaves and branches. He will climb on her, but I have to pick him up first and then let him crawl onto her. Their behavior can be strange and patience is definitely needed, but the way he interacts with me is so rewarding because as a keeper we do try to make their lives as fulfilling as possible. It's just nice when they seem to bond with us that the effort is realized and appreciated.
