Excessive? or not?

I saw this posted on FB when I got home this morning ... PRICELESS !!! He should get dad of the year ... lmao

Lol Love it. My parents would never allow me to whine and be that disrespectful, I'm glad they didn't just let it slide like so many parents do.

I have mixed feelings. I fully understand his frustration.

However, he was obviously sort of dopey early on.

I made my daughter's presence on Facebook contingent on me being able to access all of it (including the administration of the page). If I didn't have complete power, she lost her lap top (no gun fire, I would just take it away).

He seems like a parent who wanted to sleep through the process until it slapped him in the face.

I can sympathize and I think, based on what he said, he's the "more right" of the two, but he did fail in parenting earlier in the story.

And, he freaking blew up her laptop....regardless of what he thought when he did it, he'll pay for a new one. He will. That was just stupid. He should have just shown it to her and said "It's mine now". All he taught her with that was destroying another person's property to make a point is a good idea. Bad parenting.

He's not the father of the year. She's not the daughter of the year. They might well deserve each other.

My son last week was grounded for following older kids. (he is only 5) after karate, they play in front of the Dojo, my son is a higher ranking belt and therefore in a black gei. it was getting to be dusk, the older kids ran around the corner, absolutely not allowed. he followed
Out of 6 kids, mine was the only one punished, he lost all electronics for a week, and it was carried out.
All the other parents were appauled that I not only punished him, but followed thru on it.
WTF????, are there no consequences for a persons actions anymore? He said it wasnt the first time, she was punished, and didnt seem to care.
Not sure I would blow up a great pc, but I get it.
Every action has a consequence, I tell my son that all the time. Whether it is a good deed being rewarded, or a bad decision being punished.
Last nite, same kids, same decision. My son, turned around and left the group, and came to me.
Guess what, the restriction was lifted with his great choice

Okay, I saw this and yes I agree with punishment. But, this guy is a redneck asshole. Who the F busts out a gun to destroy a computer? I don't care what you all have to say about that. That's wrong, and dangerous.

Haha so I take it you don't grab the biggest gone in the closet get you old tv and take it to the middle of no where and blow the crap out of it ??? Lol

Hahaha, no. We civilized citizens recycle. Or in the perfectly fine computers case sell.

i agree with him and if he wanted to distroy the laptop, he paid for it. he said that she was only grounded for three months and next time she can pay for her own. i think someone cold stick to that. shes old enough for a job just about..i'd have prefursed the laptop go to goodwill or somewhere someone less fortenute could have had it.

either way, the girl needed to be punished and shown something like that is wrong, and he did it unlike most parents these days.

This was my first thought. I think it does have a certain "seriousness" to it though. Shooting the laptop I mean. In my experience, if you show someone you are serious, they will take you seriously. I doubt he has many problems from now on. So, it was worth it I guess.

What a jerk!

Hi Agree completely! People like him shouldn't have kids in the first place! We all have been grounded or had to do chores, which in my case was seen as team work if you have a big family. People like him have rebellious kids, when you don't care enough to explain or talk or spend time wit them. "You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar" they say, if he doesn't get that at his age he's pretty f***ed up! :(

Thats not dangerous at all. It was definitely "redneck" of him yeah.
He seemed educated, works in the IT field and all. Not really the worlds best public speaker no.
He wasnt going "Homer Simpson" and turning his tv on, or opening a beer with his gun. He was just letting off steam(which guns are great for) because he felt dissapointed, and betrayed by his daughter. He obviously wasnt "enraged" or in a "dangerous" mindset.

BTW if you dont own a gun, you should definitely go get one. You should also practice with it regularly, there are definitley dangerous phsycos out there, and they have plenty of guns of their own.

I think you are "assuming" alot here. Not wanting to argue or anything.
Like you mention, its kids that dont get attention that rebal. He obviously keeps track of his daughter to some extent. A parents job is to toughen their kid up to some socially exceptable standard. How else is the kid going to know how to act when they get to the real world? Where the competition is cold, and ruthless?

Employees bash their bosses on FB all the time and guess what they're adults. They can't get fired because its water cooler talk. They're not going to get in trouble for it. The lesson this girl is learning is to hate her parents more. Because at that age the girl could emancipate herself and move out. Is that what parents really want? We were never made to do chores at my house. Everyone would clean when it was cleaning time not just the girls. Kids aren't you personal slaves. Making coffee everyday give me a f'ing break. And she wasn't complaining to him she was venting on FB. The same way he is venting.

Total redneck thing to do: I have a gun let me shoot something.
