Hi,guys-
Question-
We are building a double enclosure for our two Veiled Chameleons. We have the base done but now on to the cage part. I'm wondering what you all recommend for the base/divider/back that are waterproof that you found works well?
Thanks in advance!
It is not good to house two chameleons in the same cage together, but as long as you have them in separate/divided areas, that should be ok.
Make sure your two chameleons cannot see each other! Then they will be stress free from themselves.
Waterproof stuff... Usually it's just PVC or anything plastic. For a backing I've seen people make tile backings or fake plastic backings with plant holders in them. it's really creative.
Just try searching around the web for custom chameleon cages, I'm sure you'll find one with cool ideas.
For the back and divider, I'd use Coroplast, it's corrugated plastic, and it's very easy to work with. Not sure what to use for the floor. People sometimes use wood and treat it with a sealant. Maybe a couple of dog crate trays, if you can find them in the right size.
You could set the entire cage over two plastic storage boxes, with the cage divider centered over the walls of the boxes. Each cage side would drain into a separate box. Look for dog crate trays, bird cage trays, hydroponics flood table trays, cement mixing trays, appliance drain trays, all sorts of ideas. You could build your own trays from cut to fit rigid plastic glued together with silicone. Coroplast can work for cage flooring depending on how heavy your plant pots are (but you could set the pots on braces).
