Egg Question - Help Please

I bred a pair of my veileds not too long ago and my female layed her eggs tonight (Friday, 3/26)- almost a week earlier than everything I've read/researched said she would. In fact, she had an appointment at the vet at 10:30 in the a.m. (Saturday) because you could start to see the outline of the eggs and I was getting worried about her. Long story short, my Hova Bator and Hatchrite were suppose to arrive from LLL Reptile on Friday, 3/26, but they wrote my address wrong on the shipping label (although they got the exact same address right for the billing address!) I called when I realized that the shipment was delayed and after some pleading, they called Fed-Ex and told me that Fed-Ex would go ahead and deliver the package Saturday (today now!). As this is my first "clutch" I'm excited and a nervous nelly. Will the eggs survive buried in the soil and still be viable before my hatchrite and incubator actually arrived today (I have no idea what time they will be delivered)? They have been laid in Zoo Med's Eco Earth with a small amount of calcium reptile sand mixed into it. Thank you!!!

Remember, they do lay the eggs in dirt in the wild... and have survived many years... I think one or two days in the laying bin will be fine. Don't dig them up till you are ready though. Keep the laying bin in a cool place, just like the temps you will be keep the eggs at.

Currently I have some panther eggs that my female laid in her a pot of dirt and I haven't dug them up. I am thinking I will let them hatch naturally. I might dig down to the eggs to get a count and see the status... but I am worried I might disturb them.... can't decide, but they should be ready in the next month or two.

Thank you so much! I have had Ms. Smegel, my female, since she was a baby, and have waited until now (she is almost 16 months old) to breed. I thought I would be prepared, but like I said, she laid exactly 21 days after mating instead of the customary 30-40 days. On March 15, I had an ulcer explode, tear through my stomach lining shredding it, and proceed to tear two holes in my bowel. I underwent 3 1/2 hours of emergency surgery and spent 6 days (first 3 were rather touch-n-go) in the hospital, have only been out of the hospital less than a week, and am still barely moving around - Thus was out of commission for over a week before I could order the hatchrite and incubator.

She had been digging to China for the last couple of days and like I said, I thought it was too early and was getting worried about her so she had a vet appt this a.m. I went to check on her late last night and couldn't find her or the opening of tunnel she had dug. Totally freaked and started digging. Finally located her and the tunnel had evidently fallen in on her. She was cold and unresponsive but I took her out (which is when I saw all the eggs) and rushed her into the bathroom. I soaked her in a warm bath and cleaned her face, eyes, nose, etc. off as much as possible and dripped water over her head. She in turn laid two more eggs in my hand and finally started becoming responsive. She finally opened her eyes and "helped" me get the dirt away from her nostrils by dipping her head in the water and then putting her head up letting me brush away the dirt. She finally opened her eyes and started drinking and moving around. I felt her tummy real good and as full as she had been, there were definitely no more eggs. I checked on her a couple of times throughout the night and her color was back to normal and she was fine. This morning she is back to her bright green color and basking on a branch. She's momma's baby, and this scared me to death. As excited as I was to try to breed, no clutch of eggs is worth my Ms. Smegel!

So much for trying to be completely prepared!!! Again, thank you, as you have definitely relieved my mind!

wow crazy times! lol

Keep a note of how dry your dirt was. It seems that it might have been too dry for her if it caved in like that. You are lucky she made it out ok! hope the eggs work out for ya.
