How many inches of the soil/sand/peat moss mix do you think I should provide my female veiled with come egg-laying time?

And I'm talking about depth here... From top to bottom.

At least 12 inches.

Yeah, I try to do it around 12 inches as well.
They seem to know if it's not deep enough.
I don't do much deeper though, as they tend to dig to the bottom regardless.
I don't want them to work any harder than they have to.

Brad, does that mean i should get a smaller bucket? my girl dug 18 inches to the bottom, or should i just not put as much dirt?

It's a personal preference of mine, again ... I think they work hard enough without giving them any opportunity to further tax themselves.
I think a larger bucket with only 12" of medium would work well.

I had a female that found 12" insufficient and would not lay without at least 16". Yes, that amount made a difference to her! I give all of mine close to 18"
