effects of overheating

Hey everybody, I'm just wondering the effects of too hot a climate for a veiled. It's not a worry for me as my temp gradient are ok according to my gauges.I just say Fred sitting closer than normal to his basking lamp earlier but he had his mouth open like a crocodile as if he was too hot.I don't think it was a back off gesture as his colours were relaxed and he didn't have his chin puffed out.any opinions?

Warmer enclosure temps for a female veiled can lead to more egg production. This can be tough on the girls and can shorten their lives some. In general though, temps that are too hot can lead to dehydration, upper respiratory infections, burns, lower humidity levels, and can cause your chams to be unable to thermo-regulate throughout the enclosure.

I have on occasion seen chams basking with their mouths open, and I would say if your temps are correct and humidity is good, and your cham is well hydrated, and you do not hear wheezing or labored breathing, not to worry.

Ya as others have stated, dehydration some times burns. Dehydration is the main concern, things can go down hill QUICK when they are too hot, too dry, and cant escape to cooler areas. We are talking hours here, if not an hour if its at 100f.

As for mouth gaping while sunning them selves, most of mine do it, every one of my beardies do it on their rocks. I think they are just too lazy to move to a cooler area because they like the warm. Some of mine will even sleep with one arm or a tail on the rock, so they are preheated when the morning lights are on.

Thanks for d info lads.I wasn't worried as I'm confident with my temps and overall setup.and dehydration wasn't an issue as I know he gets good listing and constant access to a dripped.he actually drinks from it directly and does it in front of me so I'm sure and his urates are good and white. It was only a general interest question thanks again
