Hi so I wondering instead of using paper towels and newspapers I could use eco earth instead?

There are a couple of problems using substrates in cham cages. They absorb and hold water, feces and urates and will eventually stink and increase the bacteria load in your cage. There will be moldy areas where it sits wet or shaded. If you free range your feeders they ingest the stuff or get it all over themselves...then your cham eats them. A cham shooting at a feeder on the surface can pick up pieces of it on its tongue and ingest it. Not great. You'll have to keep the surface picked up and also drained or it will turn into a smelly moldy swamp.
If you want to use organic substrates you will need a "clean up crew" to take care of the fecal/urate material. There are threads here that talk about setting up bioactive cages. It takes some work and design. If you are not ready to put that much into it, newspaper/towels are easy/

I used eco earth for like a week and absolutely hated it. It was such a mess. Who knows if it’s best practice, but I bought a large green reptile carpet and cut it to fit the bottom of the cage. It holds water well and I take it out weekly, rinse it out, and throw it in the dryer for a bit. So far so good. No flooding and it’s very easy to clean off.
