hi all,

my 15 week old veiled male has just eaten his own poo! why would he be doing this?! should i be worried?

he probably thought it was a feeder. It happens. Just try to remove the poo as soon as you see it. He probably learned a lesson.. Yuk...:p

well you would think so wouldnt you....

i saw him at the bottom and thought, thats weird, he never goes down there and then noticed there was a poo, he then turned round, and ate the white bit, i stood their in disbelief and watched him climb back up the branch. i went downstairs to get some kitchen roll to clean up the rest of it and as i approached the viv saw him eating the rest!!

he obv thought it was tasty and went back for more! yuk! strange thing is, after i saw him eat the first bit i quickly gave him 2 crickets to try and wash it down so dont know why he went back for more?!?!

thats insane. . yea its best just 2 keep up with cleaning the cage. hopefully he doesn't get sick n doesn't try that stunt again. . thanx for sharing ur bizarred story. .

i think maybe he is feeling poorly today... normally he eats 2 crickets in the morning, 2 at lunch and 2 at dinner but ive tried him twice today and he wont eat anything, hasnt drank anything either and he is a bit wobbly :( what shall i do?

He might be eating his fecies because of a calcium deficincy.(Don't know how to spell that word)What's his dusting schedule, his lights, and the cricket gutload you use?

He has a 60w light bulb for basking which is on 10 hrs a day, he also has a repti-glo 10.0 UVB strip bulb which is on 12hrs a day.
I dust with multi-vits, just going to try and find the brand (have put it in my own tub!) twice a week.
I have fed the crickets on slices of orange, cucumber, pepper and strawberry.

My 5.5 month old panther did that once too, I was horrified!
Lucky they only do one poo each day so it's easy to keep up with it, if not so easy to always find them!
I have to really keep up on cleaning in his cage, including pruning dead leaves off his plant, I guess they look like a cricket because he always seems to want to eat them!
I thought at first I was under-feeding him, but he takes 12-14, 3/4 size gut-loaded crickets each day...I don't know if I should give him any more then that

Eating his poo, really shouldn't hurt him. I don't think you have to worry about it. My veiled ate his several times.

I have no idea why they do it.
