Eating Hibiscuis plants?

Hello and good morning to some, i noticed in the morning Clea has been eating pieces of the hibiscus plants leaves. Not the colorful blooms but the actually leaves. Can anything happen to her? Thank you for taking the time to look at this thread. I just don't want any health problems to occur on Clea. Thank you.

hibiscus are in general, cham friendly plants so you should be ok , however , even safe plants that have been properly washed and prepared, often have fertilizer stored in the plant itself which is not healthy , so to discourage further plant eating you might try hanging a frond of cham friendly greens, like kale , mustard greens or collard greens, in an effort to get her to eat that instead of her furniture
 
Collard greens, dandelion greens, boc choi (bock choy sp???), and kale make much better greens to feed her. Like I said Romain Lettuce has no nutritional value.
 
Amy only eats the leaves too. I can't get the hibiscus to flower in her cage though, but when I first put it in there it had flowers which she completely ignored!

Where do you get that plants store fertilizer ? Please show me something and i will apologize but as of now i think your full of fertilizer! What about our veg gardens that we fertilize ?Are we ingesting unsafe amounts of fert i think you just posting crap with out even knowing and probably scaring this kid so please get busy i want to see the proof that plants store fertilizer and its harmful.

If you go to any store that sells fertilizer you will see that there are many kinds, some are safe foe human consumption, some are not. In most cases ornamental plants are given the unsafe kind as they were never meant to be consumed.
 
I bought a hibiscus plant for Moose, our veiled, and he ate ALL OF IT!! It went in there pretty as a peach and he ate all of the leaves and all of the flowers. He left nothing but the branches. We got it at home depot and just switched the soil and washed the leaves off before putting it in. Clea should be very happy to have such a concerned owner!

a quick note: To make plants grow faster, what you need to do is supply the elements that the plants need in readily available forms. That is the goal of fertilizer. Most fertilizers supply just nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium because the other chemicals are needed in much lower quantities and are generally available in most soils. Nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium availability is the big limit to growth. Plants take fertilizer and break it down into the components they need. Remember cow manure is used as fertilizer too, fertilizer comes in many forms.. not just commercial.
