Dubia lower temp limits

Ok im not sure what to do. Lizard room is 78F in the closet where i keep the dubia. Well the last head count put me at a 2 year supply :)

Out side the lizard room its 68F and i heard that they dont live well below 70F. So how do i slow down roach production? Maybe 1 week at 68 and one week at 78? I tryed feeding off all the males, but due to perpetual motion machine kicking in the males are getting replaced faster than i can feed off (2-3 a day).

yea below 70 degrees will stop them from breeding and ive had mine at that temp for long periods of time and never had a single roach death..
i dont know how cold it has to get for them to start dying. but colder than 65 i can tell you that. feel free to breed them like crazy so you always have a good selection of feeder sizes then just sell others here.

Separate the males from the females or sell of some of your colony. They key is to separate the males from the rest of the colony before they become adults.

Here is an easy way to tell the juvenile males from the females. The males will have larger wing "buds" because the adult males have full wings. Here is a picture of a large male nymph.

Females will have much smaller wing buds and they will be fairly flat. Here is a female to show the difference.

Another way to tell the difference is to check to belly of the roach. Here is a picture showing the difference between a male and a female. The male has a much smaller segment on the end of the belly than the female. This difference can also be seen in the adults.

I have kept them alive at 65 degrees or so but a few tend to die after a few weeks of keeping them at that temp.

they can survive vary cold temps. My wife threw away some rottin fruit in the trash outside that had a few dubias on it (she refuses to touch them).and there were a few still alive a week later and its been around 32-45 out side! Im sure its not good for them but they are survivng!

taking out every single male is going be a pain but if you want to stop breeding put under ac or by a fan ,they would still breed but not as much

sell off half your colony, would probably rake in 500+ depending on the size and your prices. I'd do craigslist first, 150 mixed for 15$ us about average. Just go male heavy when counting.
