Dubia colony size limit?

Hi,
Wondering if anyone has any guidance on how large a colony should be before it gets too large? I have had mine going for over a year and it is masive. I no longer have dragons to fed but my baby Chams love them. Any benefit in splitting it into 2 colonies?
Thanks!

Splitting in two colonies might save you if you had something extreme happen to one. My colony is getting large, too. I keep dubias and hissers together and the hissers might get separated soon, due to how large they get and the number of babies I've been seeing recently.

I split them or start selling more when they look really crowded, even for roaches. If they start eating eachother or showing agression, then you know its way too crowded.

ewwwwwwwwww......blahhhhhhhhhhhhhh I HATE roaches ! BUT...now that I know the are good for my babies- UGH - I am going to have to get some:eek: I can hardly stand the thought of one let alone many in my house- is that how you guys started tho ? not liking them ? do you get used to them - OMG- the thought of them - how do you pick them up to feed them to the chams - how do you grow them into such large colonies ? I MAY be picking up 2 already started colonies, the guy said its like 6,000 :eek: roaches - I have no idea even how to take care of them - they kinda come w/ some other stuff I may be getting -

I have only 50 small 50 medium from my reptile show and they're like rolly pollys to me but big ones I won't touch or think of it.

If you can pick up a well started colony go for it! They are super easy to take care of and have no smell compared to crickets. My daughter is home from college and she saw me grabbing some babies out of the colony @ feeding time and freaked out:) You just have to get used to them.

I think i will split them up into 2 just in case I ever have a problem with one, thats a great idea Pssh:D

The nymphs really do look like roly pollies! They even curl up as a defense (though not as well as a really pollie would.) think of them as more of a beetle or something. The adult females looks like shiny giant beetles. They really arent like the nasty roaches that come into your house (DO NOT get red runners or any that can climb if you cant stand the idea of the infesting species! Dont even look at them!)

I have a blog on the care/housing/feeding off/how many to get/etc. of dubia. They are super easy, and you can use some gloves or tongs to pick them up. I do suggest starting with only a few feeders to see if your chameleons/lizards will even eat them though. You dont want to end up with 6000 roaches that you cant even feed off!

I agree - if she or no one else will eat them- off they go ( and most are goig anyway to someone ) - I have that issue w/ meal worms right now- I must have 1,000 - they keep breeding, and breeding , I started to feed them to our chickens ( until a coon killed them all )
I will read the bolg :D ty for the info - and NO RED RUNNERS- lol ( or I will be a runner :p )
