hey i know that most Chameleons don't drink still watter so i got this waterfall type thing that moves the water, but she hasn't drank from it yet. is this a problem??
I recommend replacing the waterfall with a dripper/mist system. If you want to keep the waterfall, it should be cleaned everyday due to bacteria build up.
Yup thats right!!! Waterfalls and standing water get polluted with poops and stuff and then bacteria begins to thrive in the water and once your cham is thirsty enough,,,,it may start drinkin from it and thats not a good thing!!!!
I have both going in my cage,,,,,a mister twice a day for between 2 to 3 minutes drpending on the humidity and a dripper going for the most part of the day,,,,the water dripping on the leaves and making its way to the bottom along branches is more enticing to chams than still water!!!
Hello, welcome to the forum What species do you have and how long have you had her?
Also, most people will advise you to get rid of the waterfall. I can tell you from my own experience that it doesn't take long for them to get very messy. Insects drown in there, chams use them more as a toilet than anything else. Basically it's a total pain to keep them clean enough to drink out of anyway.
A lot of chams are secret drinkers , the best way to tell if she is hydrated is to check her poop. If the white part (urate) is white then all good. If it is yellowish she could do with extra mistings. If there is any orange in there then she is very dehydrated.
