I finally had set aside time for Nahla she is starting to blow up like a Balloon. It's time to get her a ultra-sound. That way we can see how many eggs she's got in her belly. Unfortunately we only have one vet here. And they love to beat up your check book...Lol... I was wondering are all reptile vets expensive? What are some prices you guys are paying? Unfortunately this visit will actually buy four or five Nahla's. Lol... I guess that's part of being a good Parent....

You are paying for the "non-traditional" specialty pet training and experience and probably because an exotics vet isn't going to be available at every practice. Can't really say for certain as I always need the exotics vet...not the "normal" ones!

Both of my chameleon vets are reasonable. I have a mobile vet (with tons of chameleon experience) that comes to my house and we also use a specialist for serious problems and surgeries. I find both of their prices to be reasonable.........often even more reasonable than my dog's vet.

We dont really have vets in our area that are experienced with chameleons. I found one that is comfortable with them and she is very expensive. But she also works out of a 24 hour emergency hospital. But even on her exotics appointment only night its pretty expensive.

My vet is a complete joke even though she claimed to know about reptiles, never ever AGAIN! I had a veiled 4 years ago that suddenly developed a eye issue and instantly accused me of not looking after him right and treated him with a vitamin A shot, time went on and he got worse, took him to another vet and found out he had a brain tumour that was pressing against his eye and the new vet was shocked disgusted that she didn't even do a xray and had to put him to sleep.

I no longer give her my business and reported her for doing her job badly, for the consultation and 1 shot, £250 -_-

I usually pay maybe $40-50 for the consultation and then whatever extra for what I need. Typically about $18 for a reptile fecal (I do my own at home when possible), maybe $15-20 for antibiotics or general medicine, and $100 for an x-ray. I've never paid more than $150 for a chameleon surgery.

This is across 4-5 Florida exotic vets that I've seen over the last few years.

I pulled out on of my bills:

For them to send out a fecal to a specialty lab it was $62.50 (they can do them in house for half that but they arent very experienced with chameleons and stated might be better to send out)......I have a microscope coming today to avoid this in the future.

Exam fee $65, recheck exam fee $40

X rays $143.25

Blood work $128.25 shipping fee for blood work $20

Last visit for George was $350 and everything was normal. No answers for his issues. It can get very pricy.

When we took Rex in for a cut on his mouth it was $83 and all we left with was betadine.

That sounds so neat a mobile reptile vet. Actually it is a really good idea due to stress levels.

Thank you all for your responses. Now I can compare costs. My concern is, hopefully they are actually specialist in the chameleon world. I will let you all no with Nahla's results. And maybe I can get some ultra sound pics to share....
