Does something like this exist (uvb and basking bulb hood combo)

Hello! I've been googling like crazy trying to find something that is both a uvb and basking bulb combo but isn't a dome light. I'm looking for something flat and sleek that will sit on top of a 24" tank. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!

There are bulbs like this but they are not recommended for chameleons. They tend to be far too strong on the enclosures we use... over exposing the cham to a much too high uvi level while cooking them to death with temps that are far too extreme.

You need a T5HO linear fixture and a 5.0 or 6% UVB bulb then you want basking branch to be 8-9 inches below the fixture sitting on the top of the cage. For heat you use a dome fixture with a regular 60 watt incandescent bulb. Depending on species temp requirements.


When you say tank I hope you do not mean fish tank....

That describes a certain type of mercury vapor bulb, but they're so powerful that they're usually (AFAIK) used by/for free-range, where they're a considerable distance (several feet) above basking.

They are not flat.

For chameleons, we need 3 kinds of lights:

• UVB (linear T5 running full width of the enclosure, either Reptisun 5.0 or Arcadia 12%)
• Basking, in order of preference:

1. Old style household incandescent (NOT LED)
2. Incandescent flood (NOT LED and NOT spot)
3. Halogen flood (NOT spot)

• Plant lights (Currently, LEDS are more efficient, economical, and greener)

It may not be the most convenient, but it makes the most sense.

• You can adjust/aim each independently of the others to get the best "balance" for your enclosure.
• If one blows, you don't lose 2 or 3 functions while waiting for a replacement to be shipped.

None of the fixtures you linked to house the correct lighting. As @Beman mentioned, you'll need to buy the lights separately because they're all based on different technologies. As @Klyde O'Scope mentioned, there are advantages to that!

Way overpriced, and insufficient for a 24 x 24 x 48 enclosure. You only need one UVB, and to get the same output & range as a good LED plant light, you'd need at least 4 T5 plant bulbs in addition to the T5 UVB. The smaller lights are likely spots, which can burn. Also, 2 "basking" lights may confuse a reptile (personal experience).

That's an aquarium light. Wrong kinds of bulbs.
