does my chameleon have mbd?

Hello everyone. I have a new chameleon and im new to owning a chameleon. I got him about a week ago. Hes about 4 months old. hes very active during the day, he eats 7 or 8 crickets a day and he drinks of the plants i spray everyday to. Most of the time he seems to be normal, but when you hold him and he tries walking on you, he KINDA shakes. You can barley feel this shaking and somedays he doesnt even do it. But when he does shake i get worried that he might have mbd.I researched all the symptoms and he only seems to have 1 wich is the shaking. i do give him the calcium powder wich i put on the crickets 2-3 times this week. If a experienced chameleon owner could please respond to me that would be great. feel free to message me whenever you want about this topic. i can also add pictures if you would like me to. thanks again :)

Can you post pics and fill out the how to ask for help form located in the health clinic??

I'm sorry your having trouble with your baby. I think 4 months is really young to have mbd.

Does he sway or outright shake? Swaying is a camouflage mechanism to mimic a leaf. But if he's shaking there might be another problem.

he does both. the shaking is very minor and sometimes doesnt even do it. i will post the pics very soon ( about 10-30m). thank you very much for replying :)

Its the leaf walk. Its normal.

As long as they dont fall repeatedly, have 'extra' joints, grab themselves.. then they are probablyfine.

though posting the help form would always be benefical to you.

his species is vieled chameleon, sex is male age is 4-5months old and hes been in my care for a week

if handling means walking around in my hand then he does it for about an hour a day

i feed him 7 or 8 crickets a day and hes never not ate. also every three meals i pour calcium with d3 on half the crickets.

i use reptocal made by tetrafauna with d3 and calcium and dust half the crickets every three meals.

i use hot water and spray him for behind until he moves then spray the plants and he drinks of the plants.

his dropping are brownish black and some white. hes never been tested for parasites sinc ei had him for only a week.

i got him from petsmart and they kept him in a very small glass cage with only little plants. they said he likes to eat alot.

its a glass cage with a screen on the top

i use 2 difrent light, one light thats a heating lamp called exo tera sun glow 60 wat light that i keep on from when he wakes up to 9 at night.

the other light i use is a exo terra as well 5.0 uvb light

its uasualy 70-80 degrees in my chameleons cage

the humidity lvs are uasly 60-75 and i use a humidifier every hour for 10 minutes.

it is on top of my desk pretty high up, i need a chair to get up to him. not near any air vents.

i live in chicago illiniose and the tempature as of right now is 30-45 degrees

if im doing anything wrong please tell me so i can improve on keeping my chameleon healthy. thank you

Ok. soo.

Food- Let him eat as much as he can.

Supplements- you need a calcium WITHOUT d3 to dust on every feeding, a calcium WITH d3 for twice a month, and a multivitamin for twice a month.

Watering- mist him at least 4 times a day.for sevral inutes til the leaves are dripping.

by glass cage, you mean a terrarium, or a fish tank??

his basking temp shoud be around 84 deg.

What plants do you have? anything real or fake? wahts on the bottom of the cage?

i have a teranium, real plants non toxic plants and soft earth on the bottom. thank you for the advise for now but i realy have to go. i will see your reply in a hour

Haha I thought there was something wrong with mine too when i first got him. I wonder how a full grown panther looks trying to pass as a leaf. :p

Ok, remove the stuff on the bottom.

veileds are known to eat stuff. and if he eats that dirt, he could become impacted.

A bare floor is the way to go. if you feel the need to have something on the bottom, use reptile carpet. but again, that can breed mold a it retains water.

Screen cages are better as tey provide better air flow for veileds.

Haha, im glad im not the only one and ill try my best to remove all that earth on the bottom but he never walks on that he just walks on the fake branches and plants

Thanks @davidbuchan! I realy apreciate the help. Hopefully i can post the pics by tommorow. I just hope hes healthy. He seems like it other then the fact that when he tries grab something higher from wher he is standing his hands kinda shake. Hopefully that is normal
