Does Bean have MBD??!!!

Good evening!!! We got Bean almost 7 months ago & the last 2 days he’s not been eating, weak, can’t really lift is backside & seems to not be able to use his back legs. And wanting to be on the bottoms of his cage. We went to the ER vet & waited 5 hours before they had to do a surgery & couldn’t get him in. Now we are stuck & im a wreck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

@Beman might know?

Seems to be a female to me. Beans might be a she not he.

I would think extremely egg bound? Assuming you don’t have a lay box. A vet might be needed along with surgery.

What you can do for the time being is get a lay box ready. Get some moist play sand or substrate you can dig a tunnel in and it can hold. Put said substrate in a bin big enough for beans to fit and dig in. Put the bin in a area with cover so she feels safe to lay eggs and leave her alone until you can get her into a vet. Vet as soon as possible though.

He is definitely a she and full of eggs, along with possibly having MBD (can't tell too much because of her weight, producing that many eggs can cause it, too). You need to call all 24 hour emergency exotics vets near and in your area and tell them she needs to be seen ASAP! She is most likely egg-bound. Do you have a hospital bin or lay bin for her?

@BoujeeBitch what area do you live in? Can you call in areas around where you are? Say a vet that’s an hour or two away? An hour or two long drive is better than a full day.

Let them know it’s life or death before making the decision to call surrounding areas.

NOPE!! They didn’t seem to care honestly. And now we are finding out Bean is a girl. I hope we can fix her & FAST. I feel so bad & im so so stressed out. My daughter will be so heartbroken.

they told us he was a boy & this is our 1st one. She just started acting up 2 days ago. I’m so nervous. I will def you keep you posted.

I appreciate ALL of you so so much.

I’m in the Portland metro area. I’ve literally been in the phone since yesterday trying to find someone.

If you literally can’t find a vet until Monday. Get the lay bin going and make sure she’s hydrated. She’s in a really dire situation but she might be able to make it til Monday. Make sure the appointment is super early. Sooner is better than later.

I’m not confident as my daughter just called me having a complete meltdown. Bean closed her eyes & then fell onto the towel we put down. I’m worried she’s going to pass away tonight. 💔💔💔

If she can’t support herself on her branches just let her lay down on a soft surface in a bin or bottom of her cage.

Make sure she’s comfortable and try not to stress her much. Reptile can be resilient. Hopefully she makes it.

I’m so so sad as we were mislead & didn’t know. I feel like a failure. We just got a lay bin made & put her in it. Keeping the lights on or off?
