does anyone have any experience with "studding out" their chams?

linus is about 9 months old, and a very handsome boy. id like him to breed eventually, but not sure if i want to go into the whole "getting a female" thing..id like to stick with one cham for now. but i was thinking about studding him out for pick of the clutch, that way im not stuck with a bunch of babies, i can pick one or two, and leave the rest with the person who has the female. if i do post an ad about it, im sure i wont get many replies unless its from the local reptile company looking for a new bloodline, but then again, i dont know linus's bloodline..im thinking his parents may have been wc..any experience with this?

i recently had a friend who wanted to mate his female and his males were showing no interest at all. so he asked if i would try my male. the mating was succesfull and she produced 28 eggs, witch we split. i believe that splitting the eggs is a somewhat normal agreemenet but there is noe reason that you could not possibly work out other arrangments.
like you say there my very be another member or keeper that requies some new bloodline for a breeding project. also if you are able to find someone who has bred chams before you can be better assured that they know what they are doing and could possibly learn through the process.

would linus be old enough now? or should i wait? guessing about 9 months on the size of his horns...but no exact way to tell :/

make sure whoever does agree is capable of raising a bunch of baby jackson's as they are live bearing species and not particularly the hardiest babies from what Ive read. If both parties are up for the long haul thats seems ok. He is a good looking Stud lol.

depending on the locale, it's a 8-11 month gestation, the babies do come out bigger than panthers and alot hardier, just make sure your dam is CB, wouldn't want him coming back w/ STPs (sexualy transmitted parasites) I've never done it with jacksons, but it's a pretty fair deal with most egglaying species. just find someone local.

Why stud out? Breed for yourself. It can turn into a nice little hobby plus make a couple of bucks doing it.

Unless you have an extra special male, demand for his services will not be high. Not knowing his bloodlines means he very well could be a cross (no matter how he looks) and many people do not want that.
edit - just read that this is a jackson, and I was thinking panther

The female has most of the risk and essentially all of the work.
The owner of the female may give you a portion of eggs as payment, but is unlikely to do all the incubation work and grow them to a size where you could make out any significant difference between them, and then let you take the best/pick of the pack.

make sure you insist on a fecal test, and the owner of the female should demand the same of your male, to ensure neither passes a problem along

remember jacksons are live bearing, no eggs! but yea, thats why id rather stud him out, then go through the hassle of getting a female myself...
