Do I need more plants?

Hi everyone, I just got a panther chameleon a couple of days ago (the picture attached was from the first day I got him so he is on the top mesh trying to escape), I was just wondering if i have enough plants or if i should fill up the top a bit more. He has not climbed the mesh since his first day home, however he is not basking. I am not sure of its from stress of being in new environment or if it's due to exposure from lack of plants on the top. He has been eating and drinking.

That looks like it will fill in nicely... Chams like to screen crawl when they're getting used to their new home. I would raise the basking light off the top of the screen, so he doesn't burn himself. I had to do that for my guy, he's a notorious screen crawler... They don't have the right pain receptors to realize that they're burning.

Nice looking set up! 🙂

I just noticed your name 😂...love it!

It looks great! As the pothos grows, you can have fun draping and wrapping it around branches. You’ve made a perfect little forest for your guy. 💗 When he grows a bit heavier, he won’t be able to walk upside down and you can put the lights back on the screen if you wish.

Thank you! I've been stressed not knowing if there were enough plants for him to feel safe and secure... he might just need some time to adjust to his new home.

Thanks again! 🥰

I have had my panther just over a month now. He did a lot of ceiling screen walking during the first two weeks. Moving my carefully spaced/distanced lights was a challenge. I added branches that extended to the ceiling from my highest perch branches so he could get back down easier. He mostly spends his time on lower branches now as he has settled in and seems to enjoy the lower cooler spots later in the day now. The first few weeks it seemed he was trying to climb up and out.

I don’t think a young lizard brain (or old) has much in the logic compartment. (I see bugs, I want to go eat bugs, I have no idea how to get down from this damn ceiling….how did I get here? )
