The temperature here in florida is starting to get pretty hot. The air temp in the room I keep my veiled's in is like 86F right now but it has gotten in the low 90'sF already. And its going to get hotter! Should I still have a basking lamp on when the air temp gets this hot. Im starting to get a little worried because my 5 month old male veiled has a little crooked part to his casque. Its just a tiny bit crooked about 2/3 of the way up his casque. He spends alot of time under his basking lamp and I heard too much heat could cause this. Or since it is just slightly bent it could just be "normal" like something genetinc. Im pretty sure its not MBD. I give him calcium w/ D3 two to three times a month, and he spends alot of time under his UVB bulb. Regardless, back to my original question, can I turn off the basking lights durring the hot part of the day? Or can I just leave them off entirely? How do other people in very hot climates deal with the high temps?

Thanks for the info!

That ambient temp is too high and your cham is very likely going to dehydrate and over-heat. What is the humidity?

oh yeah, right now the humidity is about 65%. But the average humidity is around 70-75% I mist them several times a day for about one and a half minutes at a time. and they have drippers that are going all day.

Are you dusting with calcium without D3 at every feeding? What about vitamins? How are you gutloading your feeders and how much are you feeding him? What kind of uv bulb are you using? Growing chams especially need proper supplements or they can develop mbd which may explain the casque.

I would still use a basking bulb, even a low wattage bulb but 90 is too hot for a juvenile. Can you cool off the room a little so that you can still use a basking bulb?

I would fill out the https://www.chameleonforums.com/how-ask-help-66/ form to make sure you're doing everything right for you little ones :)

If the temperature is as high as you say, yes, you can turn off the basking light...but your chameleon will continue to need UVB. Is your UVB light a long linear tube fluorescent bulb?
