Digging

Kiwi started digging about an hour ago and suddenly stopped. I think the sand may have been to dry. I moistened it and covered the cage with a sheet...

If you're talking about a female digging to lay eggs, if she saw you watching her she may have abandoned the hole. If she does it often enough she can become eggbound...so don't let her see you watching her while she's digging.

That being said....she may dig several test holes before settling on one which she should then dig until she's satisfied with it. She should then turn around butt down and lay the eggs....likely interest evening. Then she should fill the hole in and tamp it down and return to the branches hungry and thirsty.

early

They may dig 3-4 days prior to laying. making sure there is somewhere available. just make sure the dirt is moist enough not to cave in on her and that is it. no wetter. otherwise let her be, giving birth to 20-50 babies probably isn't a party. She'll probably go down there late in the evening (veils) & come morning or early afternoon be done. She may spend all night in the bin. My jax drop their babies in the morning.

She laid at about 3 am. I stayed up all night with her( of course she didn't know I did). She had 48!!

Congradulations

Wow 48 eggs that is great. I bet she is going to be pretty hungry and thirsty. Are these egg going to fertile? Is her bin in the cage with her or did you move her to her bin?

I had a bin with moist sand in her cage. I took it out after she finished and transferred those eggs. She ate 4 silk worms and 2 dubias right away after laying :) she's sleeping now

And yes, my high turquoise male, Yoshi is the sire. They should be poppin out in about 6 months!

48

That is soooo funny. My last three clutches were all 48. Makes it so much easier, 24 x 24 in two tupperwares. Good luck, waiting will drive you insane. Just ask my kid who wants to check everyday after school. Did they hatch yet. Did they hatch yet. Did they...... He is stuck on repeat. Meanwhile, I'm stuck on stupid.
