hi

I had 2 eggs laying of about 40 eggs. they hatched 2 months ago, now about 7 cm long, happily eat fly's and mosquitoes and drink sprayed water.
they are all in a 60*60*80 cm cage outside under a tree- they have some sun hours.

in the last days I have some mortality of about 8 and can't tell why.

any suggestions?

So you have 40 babies in one cage? Maybe it is possible they are competing for food and the stronger are surviving. Are you providing the flies or do they just venture into the cage? I assume you are not breeding mosquitos for feeders. Maybe there is not enough food being provided. I am sure you know by now they are little eating machines and babies can eat upwards of 25 feeders a day. There are parasites which can be passed onto one another also. Just another possibility. I am sorry you are losing them and hope you can figure out why.

I agree that 40 in 1 cage is way to many- I recommend a max of 10 per cage.

We also need more information to help evaluate what could be going on:
What species of Chameleo are they? What's your climate? What are the daytime highs/overnight lows? How much shade is available in the cage for them to thermoregulate? How often do you water them?

You really did not give us all the details on how they are being kept which may factor in to their demise. Bottom line is 40 is alot if chameleons to be kept in the same cage. Time to seperate them out.
