Day 6, Is this behavior normal?

Hi! I recently made a post worried about my baby (2 months) veiled chameleon’s skin, here I’m back at it again, but this time wondering about his behavior.

Okay, so it’s day 6. He’s eaten only 1 cricket and 1 super small horn worm as well as his own shedded skin so far. He shed his skin on day 3 (has a little bit still stuck to him). He’s been hot and cold with me ever since but today his skin looked a little darker and he keeps changing this color (see pic) even when I don’t get close to the cage. But he’s also gotten close to my face with a light green??

Assuming I was stressing him out I left him be most of the day and every time I’ve checked on him he’s been hanging on the top right. But two hours ago I came in the room and he’s been going up and down the mesh on the right side of the cage (sections 1 & 2) before going right back to his spot up top and repeating this all over again. He’s only explore section 3 once on day 4.

Since he keep going up there I’ve raised his basking spot (top 85F and the actual basking spot 79F right now). I’ve also added new branches since the last post and planning on placing some fake plants outside the left side of the cage to give more privacy as someone suggested on my last post. Should I switch the basking light and the UVB light? He keeps going under the UVB but hasn’t used the basking light since early day 5.

Is his behavior to be expected as a new pet and just recently shed?

Would like to update that he’s tried eating and now exploring the money tree

Sounds like he's still just getting settled and starting to explore more. The shed probably put him in a bit of a funk too. Mine usually weren't interested in food so much when they were young and having full body sheds.

Your cage is looking nice! It's good to see you have his basking light elevated, but 85f is still quite hot and I'd watch to make sure he doesn't sit on the top of the screen under it. Do you know what your ambient room temperature is? In my reptile room it drops to about 59f at night and 68f in the day. As soon as I the ambient is 64 the basking light shuts off. This is because at that point the UVB and plant lights provide enough heat.

His color will get more vibrant as he grows and settles. Some chams can take a month to get fully adjusted. My female vailed is especially sensitive to change, even just moving a plant over an inch in her cage throws her off.

Well he isn’t staying under the basking light spot, only the UVB light so I was wondering if I should switch them out since he hasn’t been under the basking light for almost 2 days now.
We usually keep the house at 68 during the day and 72 at night but his cage is kept 67 at night.

Any nibbling of the moss on your vines?
Are your plants all real?

He’s gone once after that 1st cricket, was a little white on one side and mostly solid but moist brown. Don’t got a pic of it I haven’t found others but he ate another cricket after I made this post! So I might find some more later.

Oh I have one fake plants and the others are real. He’s nibbled on the pothos and money tree and I think he’s figured out he can’t eat the fake plant and just drinks water from it from time to time

That behavior can be normal for a young veiled especially after shedding and adjusting to a new enclosure. They often move around and change colors while finding comfortable spots
