dart frogs

Hello all,
Although new to chams I've kept poisin dart frogs for almost ten years. Last week while at a local reptile show with my youngest daughter we ended up bringing home a month old male veiled cham. I'm glad I found this forum as there is a wealth of info here on cham husbandry. I wish I had had time to do some research though as some info here is contradictive to what the reptile store guy told me and ultimately sold me some things I may not need. Oh well live and learn I guess. Anyways here is some pics of my viv at various stages and darts. Sorry I couldn't figure out how to do the thumbnail attachments.

Welcome to the forums. A month old chameleon is a little young to be sold, but with the right set up you should be able to suceed. Essential items now are a UVB light-most suggested the Zoomed Reptisun 5.0 linear tube (no compacts), a clamp lamp with a 40 watt lightbulb, a digital thermometer to get a basking spot to 80 degrees, and a cage that could be as simple as a plastic tub or you could just get a screen cage that you will need when your little one is older. I keep everything in a tub until they are 2+ months making it easier to clean and for your little one to find food. If you have cats or kids a screen top may be necessary. I also use fake plastic plants at that age. You will need a misting bottle to mist your new charge about 4x daily, and calcium supplements with and without D3 and a multivite.

Thanks. My local reptile store sold me a compact that I'm going to try and return. Everything else I have. At the moment I have been feeding him dusted fruit flies which he loves. I put a piece of banana on a tray in the branches so they're easy pickins for him. I culture them so I have plenty. Doing research on raising crickets as from what I've read here he will grow quickly and need bigger prey.

I looove dart frogs, I was so tempted to buy some at the last expo i went to. Are they hard to keep? Always been curious about them...

No more than chams. Maybe even less maintenance wise.Once you have the habitat established you're golden. I like to call it my own slice of the rainforest as it functions as it's own mini ecosystem. As with all living things there's a balance of nature that takes place making life flourish within the vivarium once everything is established with very little help needed other than feedings, wiping down the glass occasionally and trimming of the plants as they thrive in the environment. It's really quite amazing to watch as it's always changing.

Awesome pics. I just picked up some juvie d. azures and leucomelas at the SLC expo. Am loving them. Would love to see macro pics of your environs. I do not have running water set up-- just a habi-mist -- and would lke to redo a viv w/water.
