Daily routine

My veiled seems to have a funny little daily routine. He spends most of the day basking but when it gets to about 4pm he climbs to the floor of his cage and paces it for a couple of hours- sometimes he digs the tissue paper (he is male, I asked about it before) and sometimes he just sits on his flowerpot. Mostly he is restless though. Eventually, at about 7-8 he settles on his umbrella plant and puts his pjs on, his lights go out at 9. It's like clockwork. My friend is looking after him while I'm holiday & she's noticed too.
I can't work out why he goes to the bottom, there's nothing down there and nothing in his cage changes.
Is this just his funny little routine or is there a potential problem?

he might need a bigger cage.

for adult males, we put them in 2x2x4 ft cages

I though that might have something to do with it. I have to get another cage next month when I get my carpet. I'll try to get a bigger one, put Neelix in that & the carpet can have his old cage.

yea males then to get restless and explore everywhere. so if the cage is too small. he explores where he can, which means the bottom of his cage.
