Alright ya'll. Im curious as to if any of you have built a hybrid enclosure. Plexi glass and screen. I'm about to start building two cages that are 70 to 80% plexi glass with screen along the tops and bottoms of the sides. along with the top top for air ventilation.

Any one have any designs and pictures they would like to share?

This is NOT a thread asking if glass is ok. I know what works for me and what I need for what i'm doing. So please, dont do the usual of glass is bad, go screen... :)

I buy them ;)

I think glass is good just not all around like you said. It can hold in humidity and make your friends more visable I will try to post pics of mine I use glass not plexi glass

Thats the whole point.. Humidity. Its very dry in Utah. I have to cover my screen cages with plastic for montanes anyway, so i'd rather do glass. The screen around the sides will allow it to get air circulation though so the air is not stagnant

Could you describe the build a little? Hard to tell whats going on from the picture. However it looks nice!

Is the bottom solid though? I guess i could drill the bottom for drainage. I like using a lot of rain time with them

Ok sorry im on my cell so I cant attach the pictures another way but this is a 40 aquirium under a custom built oak cage top and sides are screen front is glass that slides out. took a lot of trial and error to dial it in.

Technically this is a terrarium with a screen front, top, and back... So yes the bottom is solid, its completely planted.

I understand what exactly you are looking for, but my suggestion would be to just go with a terrarium like an exo or better yet a protean terrarium. They hold humidity well and dont require anywhere near the amount of misting as screen cages. And they are aesthetically much more pleasing. The only downside is cost, Id have ALL glass if I could :)

I have one large cage that is "adjustable". It is coated wire mesh, but I have plexiglas panels that fit over the outside of the mesh like storm windows. I just attached windowscreen toggles to the frame to hold the panels. That way I can enclose or open any side, back or front or portions of each, based on the season. Works great!

I have a Penn Plax HD 2x2x4 which has a perspex front. Best of both worlds for me, and not too pricey. You could probably replace one or two of the screen side panels with perspex to help humidity.

I also have a few of these... LOVE THEM!

Could i get a link to where i could find them?

Thats a really really good idea. You wouldn't happen to have pictures would you?

I love these as well. I got mine from chams northwest, I just buy their cage packages and pay like 10$ extra for the penn plax. But yeah, they are pretty well put together and have a support bar across the top panel to help with the weight of lights and drippers.

This reptile store in my area called East Bay Vivarium uses those kind of cages. Theres a quite small, but they do sell half glass/mesh enclosures for chams.

I was debating on getting one for winter time, but they're a bit pricey.

I was going to buy the Penn Plax but I needed a different size. I wound up building my own. It has acrylic front (door) and rear, screen sides and top, and wood at the bottom. There is no drainage system now, but one could be added because there is lots of room underneath. I love the visibility through the acrylic! I'm still working on some cost and plan diagrams, but this was the best option for me! Good luck.
Here's a link to my thread for the enclosure.

I built mine with plexi in front and back to retain heat and moisture, and I have screen on the top and sides for ventalation. I plan on building a taller model and will probably do the same thing with it

You could always make your own! :)

I'm planning on it. I had an idea in my head but wanted to get others ideas and such.

Thanks for the link to your enclosure. Looks great!

I decided i'm going to do a glass door, with 3 sides screen. But, do carltons idea. Removable glass sides. Thanks everyone
