Custom cuts of glass?

Chameleon Enthusiast
Okay so I’ll admit this isn’t entirely chameleon related, but involves keeping my critters in general as I’d like to use glass for a few different things. The problem is I’m having a hard time finding a place that sells the glass I’m looking for. Lowe’s only has ultra thin cuts that won’t work for my purposes and the few glass shops I called don’t seem to have anything as well. I need plain glass that’s 3/8-1/2-or even 3/4 inch thick. Anyone know where to go looking? Seems pretty expensive online.

When I was looking online was outrageous. We ended up going with a local glass shop in our area who could accommodate. Maybe a window company or nearby glass shop. We chose to go with the local shop because in the end the price was pretty near online, just a little more expensive local unfortunately, but we wanted to support them rather than pay for online junk.

Contact Protean Cages?

I think Protean Cages are what I have got. They are 50/50 (Screen/Glass) enclosures. I am a big fan of them being 50/50 they have got the combination of retaining humidity and allowing air flow. I have not seen them for sale in a long while.

I just Googled Protean Cages and got nothing.....

Best Regards

I didnt even know they had sheets of glass 1/2-3/4" thick. The local places act like im nuts when i start asking for 1/4".

onedayglass used to sell 1/2". I recall it was $40 a square foot though.

Large aquariums are 1/2 to 3/4 thick. In this case I’m trying to make a land/water divide so it doesn’t have to be that thick, but at least like 3/8” or so around there.

That's a bit of a loaded question lol. Compared to what ( or when )? A lot of factors to include into the cost too. Type, edge profile ( if needed ), etc.

Hard to say how much you might save buying locally vs Amazonia mail service but I wouldn't think it will be much different. Most local places, in my experience, don't stock glass. They order it in for a specific project/job and then complete the workorder requested by final sizing, edging, etc.. unless the order can be placed into a common size / shape. Either way you end up covering the cost of the freight to bring the glass in.
