Curious of his age

Hi! We got a veiled chameleon and I’m curious to see thoughts on his age. We got him June 15th 2025, we’ve had him for 3 weeks now. He’s had two sheds, most recent he just finished.

He was very small when we got him so we couldn’t really tell how old he may be. Photos are order of first getting him into now

Age is just a guess/estimate and they all can grow at different rates but I'll say 4-5 months. Normally veiled chameleons are eating machines and tend to grow fast.

Hi. I’m going to guesstimate a little bit younger at about 2-3 months old in those pics. Are you certain you have a boy though? It’s hard to tell from your pics. Boys will have prominent tarsal spurs on their back feet, like this. Boys will also start to be showing these kinds of patterns at around 3 months old. While maybe not as visible at rest, when fired up you should start seeing the faint patterns starting. This was my little guy when he was around 4 months old.

Hi. I’m going to guesstimate a little bit younger at about 2-3 months old in those pics. Are you certain you have a boy though? It’s hard to tell from your pics. Boys will have prominent tarsal spurs on their back feet, like this. Boys will also start to be showing these kinds of patterns at around 3 months old. While maybe not as visible at rest, when fired up you should start seeing the faint patterns starting. This was my little guy when he was around 4 months old.

Im with you, that ant no 5 month old based on the head. Maybe if OP has the worlds smallest hands it could be 4 months old. Im guessing its fresh off the 90 days and up for sale wagon.

Hi! Yes we are sure he is a boy. He has the tarsals on his feet. They have grown as well since his last shed a few days ago. And yes I’ve been going through the husbandry and checking off everything. He sleeps on schedule, eats and drinks and poops have always been nice urates and he’s shed twice in the almost 4 weeks we’ve had him.

We got him from a pet store, and after a few days we started to feel like he was sold too young, he seemed unsure about how to do anything. I know it takes time to adjust to a new home, but it really seemed he was quite young.

Pet stores often sell babies that are way too young. A good breeder won’t send their veileds off until they are at least 3 months old, and panthers grow a bit slower, so they may be a bit older. I’ve seen veiled babies that were probably only a few weeks old in a local pet store.

Looking back at my little girl in January, the pet shop said she was a baby. And knowing what I know now, they weren't kidding! Picture of her in the shop in January and then when I took her home in February. (They at least held them back for 3 weeks to quarantine them and did a poop test.) And picture of her today... She must be about 8-9 months. She just had a full body shed yesterday. [Edit to add the first picture is her in the shop in January second in February when I took her home] - your guy is probably around 4-5 months.

That looks as though your female Chamaeleo calypatratus is showing healthy body growth.

Sadly that happens far to often.
