Cup Feeding: Cup too deep?

Ok so I am trying to cup feed my 3 month panther and I put the cup right below his Basking vine...I saw him sittin up there this morning with his head lookin down at all the crickets but not pulling the trigger! His body is about 3-4 inches long and the cup is about 6 inches deep. Is that too big for his reach? I just cut down the cup a few inches and put it closer so I'll see how he does...I am just wondering.

One cricket escaped and I saw him snatch it up...So he's def hungry. I just dont want them free ranging yet because I want to keep track of his eating at his young age.

6 inches shouldn't be too deep. Some chams just take a little wile to "get" what they need to do to reach them. I use a tub that is over a foot deep in my Melleri enclosure. Wile Melleri have one of the longest recorded tongues, mine are lazy and don't like to shoot that far. They will instead hang from the surround decor extending their bodies into the bin until they feel they are close enough to shoot.

Just give her time and be patient. She should get it after a wile.

I think it go back to how many crickets you are putting in the cup. Too many becomes a distraction. Hard to focus in on single food item. Placing one or two at a time in a cup may get better cup feeding results.

I agree. When I cup feed with 10+ crickets, some of the chams get overwhelmed and can't pick one to shoot at.

Thanks guys! I think it might have been that...I had over 10 in the cup. And its not a huge cup...its the kind of cup you get when you order soup from chinese takeout. I cut the cup down a little bit and lowered the cricket count...every now and then I see him stick his head down and grab one. So at least the cup feeding works! I think when he's got it down for a few weeks I will switch it up now and then...because I still want him to hunt and use his instincts. Yet its great to know how many he's eating a day, especially at his young age.
