Before I left for a weekend vacation, I spent an afternoon cleaning all of my feeder containers and refreshing their foods. I walk in the door to find them all dead.
The only feeders that survived were my dubia roaches.
All of this carnage was due to flies!
Upon inspecting their food source, it was all covered in maggots. Somehow flies had gotten inside their enclosures and laid maggots all in their food. Also when I opened the tops, a few flies came zooming out.
To prevent in the future:
I now smack the sides of the containers and make sure all flies are out before putting the lids on.
Just posting this to maybe help others prevent this from happening. This mistake cost me ~2,000 crickets and ~ 150 silk worms
