Confused Egg laying Sambava

Egg laying video

Wow, this one Sambava I have has caused quite a bit of worrying. This is her second clutch. She has only had two clutches and both have been fertile. Her first clutch required an injection of oxytocin and calcium and all the eggs are still incubating 12 months later except for 1 female that hatched 4 months ago.

This second clutch came right at 43 days after copulation. On the 42nd day she started digging test holes in her play sand. She dug 2 holes and left each one, I was planning on getting the oxytocin ready again. I gave her total privacy with just a peep hole for my camera lens, but she was not satisfied with laying in the nest. Then today I checked on her and found her pushing eggs out. Here is what I caught on tape. I have a video and some photos.

Woah! At least she got the eggs out! Just make sure she doesnt retain any!

Was the bin in the cage for the whole time or did you put it in when you figured she was ready to lay the eggs?

She looks like she is having a hard time laying the eggs. How many did she lay each time?

The bin was inside the cage the entire time and your right Kinyonga she did seems to have a hard time pushing the first egg out as you see in the video. I inspected all the eggs and they are egg shaped, with no abnormalities. I have a bin in all my females cages as a permanent fixture. She weighs a lot less now, so I am hoping she dropped all her eggs. She dropped 18 eggs this clutch and the previous clutch a year ago she dropped 23 but it required oxytocin and she still dropped them off the perch.

UPDATE: She just had a quick vet visit and xray, no more eggs. Wonder what is with this girl and the egg laying process. She seemed to struggle pushing the first egg out, but once it dropped the others just came flooding out. To bad I didn't catch them on video. All my other females dig a hole, lay their eggs and go about the day. This female seems to struggle each time, it must be something with the nesting site she doesn't like or some type of internal problem. I can't figure her out.

Agreed!!! It is very strange...IMO the sand seems perfect. It isn't cold to the touch, it isn't drenched, and it isn't overly dry. The sand packs tunnels very nicely and the bin is fairly large. I even pre-dug her some holes but she dug her own. It doesn't make sense to me why she isn't able to lay eggs in the nest and why she seems to struggle with egg laying. At least she was able to get the eggs out this time w/o meds.
