Lately I've noticed my female ambilobe panther is holding her mouth sligtly open. Is this normal? I have three others and none of them do it.

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Female Ambilobe , 6 mos old, in my care for 5 months

Exo-terra 18x18x24

UVB 12 hrs a day

Live plants, Dust 6-7 crickets daily, occasional phoenix and super worms

Basking 90 degrees, Nightime 78

Eats and Drinks good. excretement lookgs good

seems fine and acts ok. Have not noticed anything abnormal in behavior xcept the open mouth. I have 3 others in the same room without any issues.

Can anyone advise if there should be concern here?

I wouldnt be able to say what would cause that but I dont think its entirely normal.. but what I can say Is ur night time temps should be a bit lower.. by about 8 degrees at least imo

I think 90 is hot for a female. I would back that off to no more than 85...preferably something more like 81, 82...the reason is warm "weather" makes their bodies think it's a good time to make eggs and egg making takes a lot out of them...so, I tend to think you want to create a "just shy of ideal" environment for them...something they would find very livable, but that their bodies won't interpret as "perfect!"

Ok, thanks. I was mistaken about the nighttime temps. I checked it this morning and it was closer to 72 degress after being in the dark all night.

That makes sense to me, I'll lower the bulb wattage and corrrect it.

I'm using a Fluke Electronic thermometer with a remote airr sensing bulb and an Infrared Gun.

I was concerned it might be a respitory issue. I've since removed the substrate (cocoanut fiber) and have a bare floor now. I mist 2-3 times daily as well as fog it with Reptfogger. Zoo med screen cage on the way.
