Compact UVB

So whats all this talk about Compact UVB bulbs blinding or being horrible for chams? Does that really happen?Whats the science behind those comments? And if scientifically proven, why are they still on the market?

yes they did cause eye issues in reptiles across the board. they have fixed this to an extent. most of the bulbs that are manufactured today are ok. still have to factor in mechanical error/defect. most of the bulbs that were problematic were manufactured before a certain date. a while back, i put one of these on a male bearded dragon and it made his eyes swell and close. the only thing at the time that had changed in his care was the bulb. i turned it off, three days later his eyes were back to normal.

they are not recommended simply because they are not reliable as far as uvb. from what i have read also they dont put out as much either. a great, pretty much flawless design is a linear tube. reptisun makes a great product along with reptiglo.

this can be tested by yourself by buying a uvb meter.
