Been reading, reading, reading...want to be very clear on this: compact bulbs are a no-no because of...unknown, undesirable radiation of some sort?
In my 4'x2'x2' black screen cage, I used a single-bulb hood with an exo-terra 10.0 compact bulb and another hood that housed two compact bulbs opposite each other, one side with an exo-terra 5.0 compact and the other side with an exo-terra 2.0 compact. I figured this would give three levels of UV penetration, which would simulate the natural environment more closely.
The hoods rested on the outside top of the enclosure, so even though the basking branch for the 10.0 was about 8 inches away, my cham could have gotten too close by hanging off the ceiling. He never exhibited any signs of radiation-related problems, so...was my setup wrong? Do I need to sell off my $50 worth of hoods?
