Coming Of Age?

So I have a few questions about male Chameleons coming of age. Bodhi just currently hit the six month mark. He is a male Veiled and I've noticed some odd behavior. He has been in his 4 ft tall screen cage now for about 2 weeks now. He seems to be adjusting just fine. Prior to this he was housed in an Exo Terra. About 2 weeks before moving him into his new cage, I'd noticed him acting different. He had started to see his own reflection and showed some odd behavior. It was only at certain times of the day too. I think it was a combination of his lights, the ambient lighting from the windows, and the glass. He was exhibiting colors I'd never seen him show before. He would go to the bottom of his cage, where his reflection was most visible, and do this weird thing with his mouth. I can't really explain it. He would move his head in an odd way, and move his tongue around in his mouth. I have no idea why he would make such odd movements with his mouth, but he did. So I put the finishing touches on his screen cage and moved his little butt in there. I didn't want him stressed out or to harm himself.

Now that he is in his new screen cage he is still exhibiting some of the behaviors. His colors are like nothing I've ever seen on a Veiled. It isn't like this all of the time either. I've notice quite a bit of "Chameleon sperm" on his vines and plants. He will move in an odd way, but it's different than from before. I think when he was in his old cage, he was becoming aggressive and was also confused by his reflection once he started getting these crazy hormones. I almost think he wasn't sure of he was supposed to mate or kill his reflection. I think what I'm now seeing is him ready to mate. Bodhi is my first Chameleon so I've never been through this before. But I have read of similar behaviors when males are ready to mate. Sadly there isn't too much information on males and puberty, just females. So I thought I'd get everybodies two cents. I figured someone can give me input and insight on my theory. A six month old Cham, showing rediculous colors, acting out of the ordinary, and sperm all over the place (I'm sorry for being blunt but it's true). Does this sound like male puberty to you?

Yeah I'll do it as soon as my Internet is back up. I'm posting from my phone right now so it makes things a little difficult. I do need to update my "how to ask for help" form anyways. I've also been able to get some great pics of him recently. It kind of sucks.. as soon as I see him fired up, I go to take a pic, and the second he sees my phone he changes color. They are still pretty good, but do no justice to what he looks like fired up lately. He is honestly turning out to be more handsome than expected. But I should have that info up at some point in the next two days.

Yes it does.

When you say he does this weird thing with his mouth, do you mean he opens it?

Does he puff the underneath of his mouth out, and kind of jerk and shake?

Yes that's sounds about right! It's really hard to explain the mouth thing. It wasn't normal "puffing up". It was like he was puffing up, deflating, opening his mouth, and moving his tongue all at the same time. He would do this really fast and push his head against the glass (in his old cage). He didn't literally bang his head. He didn't seems to be harming himself. It was like aggressiveness, but in a weird way. Which is one of the reasons I thought it also had to do with mating. It wasn't anger like he has towards my hands. No hissing, or puffing up and staying that way, or holding his mouth open. I'd heard people explain it like you just did, but I never expected it to be what it was. I guess I'm just used to seeing Chameleons do everything slowly. But yes, it was basically everything you just described.

oh ya.. he is getting to be a man!! he is posturing against his own reflection.. he is like talking trash to his reflection haha.

Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Male Veiled Chameleon, he is a little older than 6 months, and he has been in my care since he was about 2-3 months old.
Handling - Never. Only when he needs to be moved for a cage cleaning.
Feeding - Mainly crickets. He will occasionally have a worm as a treat, and some greens. He really loves his veggies. He eats about 15 crickets a day. They are gutloaded with Cricket Crack and a similar recipe by Repashy.
Supplements - He was previously given calcium without D3 every day. And alternating Sundays, he would have Calcium with D3 and Multivitamin. So twice a month for those two. But for the past month or two he has had Repashy Calcium Plus. He gets that every day lightly dusted. I haven't seen much of a difference, good or bad. It makes things easier on me and more balanced for him.
Watering - I use a mister. He has previously been drinking distilled water, and then tap during manual mists. I'm switching him to RO now that I know it can be used in his mister. I usually see him drink at least once a day. Although he is very shy about it. If he catches me watching him he hesitates.
Fecal Description - Poop is nice and firm. Brown. And his urate is white.
History - Nothing of relevance. Any specific questions I will be happy to answer.

Cage Info:
Cage Type - He is in a 4 ft tall LLL screen cage.
Lighting - 75 Watt Exo Terra heat bulb. A linear 5.0 Exo Terra UVB light.
Temperature - Night time temp never drops below 70 degrees. Daily are around 85 degrees or a little higher in his basking spot. Going down to low 70's towards the bottom.
Humidity - Humidity levels are usually around 60%. Occasionally higher but never lower than that.
Plants - Bodhi has an Umbrella plant and a Ficus tree.
Placement - His cage is off of the ground on a shelving unit. I'd say it's highest point is about 7-8 ft. Bodhi's cage is in my room. Not much traffic other than me.
Location - Ashland, KY.

Current Problem - Not really a current problem. Just wondering about puberty as explained above. Change in behavior, color, and lots of love juice. It seems pretty obvious, but considering Bodhi is my first Cham, I wanted some second opinions.

Here are some recent pictures of Bodhi.

This is when Bodhi would see himself in the glass in his old cage.

Just some pictures of how he normally looks. Sweet and innocent. He has some beautiful oranges on his body.

Now these photos are of Bodhi during his puberty moments. The camera and lighting does no justice to the actual coloration. It's straight up neon yellow with a burnt orange color at the bottom. He almost looks like a burnt banana. But he gets these crazy spots all over his body. Some of these pics depict the spots, and a few of the others somewhat depict the color. It is hard to see because of the screen. He immediately changes color as soon as I come over to his cage. So it's a hard pic to get. But I am determined to get it!

So you might not get the full view of the fired up/puberty moments, but these are the best I could do. You get the point.

Wow great pics! I really like that one of him reaching out on two legs for a feeder. Did you, by any chance, get him from FL Chams?

Yeah that is one of my favorite pics of him. Funny enough.. he wasn't shooting at a feeder. Because I hand feed him, anytime something is moving in my hands he thinks it's food. So he thought my phone was food. Lol. Luckily I would pull away before he would shoot, but I got this pic in the process. It's extremely hard to get a tongue pic on an iphone. I'm proud. :D

But no I didn't get him from FL Chams. He was bought locally.

But no I didn't get him from FL Chams. He was bought locally. I know a girl who has one of his brothers.. Odie. Odie is a beautiful Cham, but Bodhi has done strides over him. He has excelled in growing and in looks. I must have got the pic of the litter.
Well shucks, I was gonna say that maybe he's from the same sire as my male Veiled because their colors are pretty consistent and they have similar, large casques. Oh well though, he's still a very beautiful, and large Veiled :). Thanks for posting pics of him :D
