So I have a few questions about male Chameleons coming of age. Bodhi just currently hit the six month mark. He is a male Veiled and I've noticed some odd behavior. He has been in his 4 ft tall screen cage now for about 2 weeks now. He seems to be adjusting just fine. Prior to this he was housed in an Exo Terra. About 2 weeks before moving him into his new cage, I'd noticed him acting different. He had started to see his own reflection and showed some odd behavior. It was only at certain times of the day too. I think it was a combination of his lights, the ambient lighting from the windows, and the glass. He was exhibiting colors I'd never seen him show before. He would go to the bottom of his cage, where his reflection was most visible, and do this weird thing with his mouth. I can't really explain it. He would move his head in an odd way, and move his tongue around in his mouth. I have no idea why he would make such odd movements with his mouth, but he did. So I put the finishing touches on his screen cage and moved his little butt in there. I didn't want him stressed out or to harm himself.
Now that he is in his new screen cage he is still exhibiting some of the behaviors. His colors are like nothing I've ever seen on a Veiled. It isn't like this all of the time either. I've notice quite a bit of "Chameleon sperm" on his vines and plants. He will move in an odd way, but it's different than from before. I think when he was in his old cage, he was becoming aggressive and was also confused by his reflection once he started getting these crazy hormones. I almost think he wasn't sure of he was supposed to mate or kill his reflection. I think what I'm now seeing is him ready to mate. Bodhi is my first Chameleon so I've never been through this before. But I have read of similar behaviors when males are ready to mate. Sadly there isn't too much information on males and puberty, just females. So I thought I'd get everybodies two cents. I figured someone can give me input and insight on my theory. A six month old Cham, showing rediculous colors, acting out of the ordinary, and sperm all over the place (I'm sorry for being blunt but it's true). Does this sound like male puberty to you?
